I saw this kid in the game yesterday for 2 minutes and it is apparent that he won't be getting much time this year.
2 fouls in 2 minutes.
He was caught twice trying to play D on the perimeter, that's a no no.
This was a wasted scholarship.

He was playing defense out there because our man-to-man defense has a quick trap with the big man and the guard on the top, then the big man usually drops back after the penetration in the lane is slowed.  One of his fouls was clean and should not have been called.

I do agree that he looked out of sorts.  I am not sure where he fits in the rotation either, but I am not ready to say he was a wasted scholarship.  I hope he can gain some confidence because I just don't see that right now.

Better leave the name at 71Bobcat so at least we understand his basketball mentality. That High Screen Big man shade has beena part of basketball for a couple of decades now. Best I ever saw do it was the kid from Kansas when Mike ALlen., Bubba  and Hester tried to bring the ball across the top of the floor off the screen Leon and Jerome set. He used all of his length to negate the drive off the screen and yet got back before OUr big could slip to the basket on the roll. If you watch ANY basketball at the college level the answer to the high screen and roll is the show by the bigon the opposite side to slow the dribble down. Had Devaughn and KVK been relagated to the bench for everytime they got caught early in their career defending and showing on the high screen/roll they would have lost their "wasted schollies" early on. .

Ethan was like a puppy learning to pee. He was so excited to be going out there, he wet on himself. Happens at all levels. I am not going to defend him with his paly and I am sure he was not happy but he will be fine. HUgh, dont youthink you are being a little harsh on the BEave?

Aren't you the same guy who said for three years that KVK was a stiff and would never help us?

shudders....God that brings back bad memories.  He kept forcing Allen and BWIV out near half court when they were trying to get around the pick.  They never could adjust.  Big goofy looking European kid if memory serves me.  It was right after the big Maryland win where we looked so good.

What would you expect from someone who hasn't had much playing time? Let him get his sea legs before making such a damning pronouncement.

The thing is, we need him, so let's maybe offer a little encouragement instead and see what happens.

Both KVK & DeVaughn had some less then memorable on-court moments in both their freshman and sophomore years. DeVaughn in particular had  plenty of trouble with backcourt fouls early in his career.  Calling Jacobs a wasted scholarship is not only a bit harsh but really a bit premature in the overall scheme of things. I wouldn't be so quick  to quite label the young man unfit for duty. I think he'll get to see some significant floor time before his Bobcat career is over.

I think Jacobs get caught up in the "big man" expectation factor of the fans. Everyone is clamoring for that stud in the middle and it's sort of rare for the big man to step out of high school and directly onto the starting line-up at the D1 level. Look at Akron's Marshall. Highly touted recruit out of college, surprised all by going to a "lowly" MAC school and the expectations of the fans were we are certainly Dance bound now.

Marshall didn't exactly "dominate" in his first 2 years at Akron, and really had a hard time even getting significant playing time his freshman year. PITT is another program that has learned to ease a "big man" along. PITT's McGee, who couldn't get court time even in some of PITT's blow-out wins as a Fresh/Soph started becoming a player his Jr. year and a force his Sr. year.

Key word with Jacobs - Patience

Yikes. Still having nightmares about that Kansas game. In all my years watching Bobcat sports (football, basketball or otherwise), I don't think we have ever looked so overmatched as in that game. Sadly, last year's match-up had similar results. Can we take Rock-Chalk-Jayhawk off the schedule please?
