After two games to get the legs warm the season starts to get a lot more real now. Arkansas State was picked to win its division of the Sun Belt. Then a two game road trip to Louisville and Marshall, a solid home game against Morgan State, another two game trip to Oakland and Portland, a game to stay fresh and work on some things against Marietta, then the final two game OOC trips to Wright State and Northern Iowa. Finally three momentum games to get things in the right direction heading into MAC play with NC A&T, Kennesaw State, and Bobby Mo. All that I really want out of the rest of the OOC schedule is to win out at home and split each road trip. 11-3 heading into MAC play with a boatload of confidence. Definitely attainable with this squad but would be nice to actually see it happen.

Interestingly, in their 1st 3 games, Arkansas State played 2 teams OHIO has already played.

Arkansas State blew a 9 point 2nd half lead in an opening season loss at Lamar.

“Well it’s a game we gave away there is no question about it,” said ASU head coach John Brady. “I was disappointed with our execution and the way we dealt with the pressure. We have to have the mindset to know how to win; we kind of lost our composure at times. This one was one we gave away, should have won and didn’t. Now we have to get ready for Tuesday.”

That they did not do, getting blown out at home by Mo. State by 31.

In their final game before taking on OHIO, they whip Tennessee-Martin 63-45, a team OHIO only beat by 9.

OHIO needs to be ready to play this one, as one never knows which 'team' is going to show up.

Ark St beat UT-Martin by 18 tonight

Almost seems like we're in a round robin with them and Lamar?

Louisville gets to host in all four. We get to host in three of the four. The other three teams, Lamar, Arkansas State and UT-Martin, each hosted one of the others and travel to one of the others. I thought that was sort of interesting.

Looks like the ASU 18 pt win over UT Martin was a "must win big" at home effort after the team was royally chewed by Brady after a lackluster effort vs MSU. They look to be an up & down type team. Guard play looks to be weak so far. Stop, or manage Trey Finn, and I think we win - or, as well if we have another 5 avg double figures scoring w/2 to 3 solid contributors off the bench.

I'm guessing Offutt will get the Finn duty - should be fun to watch.

Finn and Hooten are the guys we need to watch.  Both have the ability to get hot from three.

So far, Arkansas State has not shot it well from the field, except for getting hot from three at times.

They have a poor assist to turnover ratio so far.

But they have good defensive numbers...opponents FG percentage especially.

Ohio wins 69-54 over Arkansas State. Bobcats led pretty much the entire game.  Lead was as big as 18 in second half.  5 Bobcats in double figures.  Bobcats have a balanced attack this year.  Some sloppy play, but we did a decent job on the boards. Offutt showed some great effort getting loose balls and rebounds. Very impressed as him getting rebounds. Arkansas State didn't look like a good offensive team. Ohio clearly was the better team on the floor.  Holding any team under 60 is pretty good and we did that.  We got get better for Louisville and Marshall. We won three games we expected to win so far.

5 starters in double figures - Check. Contributions off the bench - Check, Check, Check! Aggressive D - Check. Offutt "manage" Finn - Check. Game plan was good, and executed. Baltic and Keeley good active play on both sides of the court. 3's spread around - good to have multiple 3 pt threats - and get the ball to the hot shooter. Few lapses, but still early in season, and game by game progress looking good. As coach said in post game interview - 40 minute effort.
