Best Wapakoneta rhyme EVER!

Pretty good stuff. The place does make a statement when you pull off the I-75 exit......but it always makes me think of bad Detroit beer......

Come on Billy, are you pulling a Rip Van Winkle on us.  This has been up on the football thread under more doom and gloom since the 13th.  You must have been busy at work.

Actually, BG used an outside group to produce this.  However, the rapper is a BG freshman and the young lady is a BG senior.

I'll agree with your "great job" comment though.   This sort of thing will get the attention of prospective students more than any Tuesday/Wednesday night game with a half empty stadium.

Does anyone know if we hire a professional advertising/marketing firm to do our promotions? Or is it done out of the athletic department?

Yeah it's hard to think of a word that rhymes with Wapakoneta.....only one I could think of was Leon Panetta.

We already have our own Professional Marketing Firm, his name is Evan Shaw.

I'm pretty sure IMG handles this for Ohio.

I love the complete lack of subtlety as the kid raps about Bill Frack while making it rain.

I would guess they handle some of it, but I'm fairly sure Shaw is behind most of the local TV ads that are created, and I know many of the posters, flyers, website splash screens, etc. are designed by student interns primarily from VISCOM.  I imagine (but have no knowledge) that IMG perhaps is responsible for placing those video and print ads, but could be entirely wrong.

had a chance too catch a glimple of the stroh center going to michigan a couple of weeks ago. Certainly looks nice from the outside and you can't miss it from the freeway. Some people are not as impressed though saying it doesn't have any atmosphere. Well Yost  at Michigan has plenty of atmosphere(can't be beat in college sports) but it is a old dump. Which would you rather have? I was never at bg for a basketball game so that is one I certainly can't answer in regards to their new building.

Really?

Really?

With Zach and Stuie up there I love this Michigan team and go back tothe days when Tim Kuzma from Muncie played up there but please. ......"can t be beat in college sports". Dude.....Nebraska at the old arena for volleyball has more beat in it........and that is not even looking down the road at the Izzone.

Cmon......we can do better. Not wanting to split hairs but there are numerous venues in college sports that move Michigan basketball down the list and that is coming from a Beilien, Townsend, Bacari close fan.

Understood. Crisler is their arena ... Just saying I have a lot of affintity for UM and have actually beein in the `16tj row mid feild of "The Big House" and been given a personal tour of Crisler and Yost by Director of Ops and athletes  and still find it amazing that the line in parentesis was delivered. thinking of all the hallowed halls tha I have visited and those pale in comparison on the "shiver chart'

Anderson Arena was very cool when they had a crowd. They just haven't since Nate Thurmond and Howie Komives.

FYI, went to see Bill Brown's CAL PA squad on Saturday. It was the inaugural game in their new arena, which is fabulous for D2. It seats a little over 6k and would be the perfect size for any MAC team, including ours. I wonder if they have D1 aspirations.

But is Shaw behind the strategy of the ads that are being created or just the executions? From my understanding he's the execution guy and from what I've seen the execution of materials (creative, production values, stuff like that) have been spot on.

Where I have questions is on broad marketing strategy. Is anyone really putting together 1, 3, and 5 year marketing strategies that layer on the objectives for the athletic department, and the objectives for the University? If the strategy isn't in place it's a lot harder (impossible) to move the needle. You need the integration of all of your tactics working together to execute one singular vision.

Not quite true...they did draw really well during the Larranaga and some of the Dakich years...but they haven't drawn well beginning with the end of the Dakich era.

Jeff, just a little literary license. Also, I like to say "Howie Komives".

Obviously I don't know the answer to that, but I would have to guess the university as a whole with the Promise campaign, etc. certainly does.  The athletic department seems to be on the more basic level of "let's get people to the next game," which frankly is probably okay for where we are.  Encourage sampling any way you can, put a good product on the floor or field, surround it with positive experiences from the ticket takers to the concession stands, and some of those folks who sample surely will stick.  I think we have a ways to go on some of the fronts just mentioned.

Agreed. I wasn't trying to jump all over you, my point is that while I've seen some awesome execution and tactics, I just don't think Marketing Strategy is where it should be for a University (read: business) of this size.

You'll have to drop me a line if/when you get a look at the new facilities for UM basketball.  There's no doubt that the new stuff in the Breslin has outpaced UM the past few years but what they're putting in is supposed to be very nice and a major upgrade.

well I have never been to nebraska so I will have to take your word on it. I have been to yost at least once a year to watch hockey now for the last 4 years. Of all the crowds I have seen nothing beats the crowd at a michigan hockey game. Since my experience at various sites is limited once again I will never argue with another opinion on the subject. The atmosphere at the football stadium next door will never come close the the crazies who fill the old barn at the bottom of the hill. It is also amazing how many schools copy the cheers of michigan. Miami and Ohio State being the best examples. Guess they both need someone else with some imagination to come up with something unique to them.
