Watching West Liberty play is just fascinating; a huge part of their game is literally running teams out of the building. When you play in a format with zero media timeouts, you get situations where teams fake an injury or delay to get their breath. Much like teams faking an injury vs Oregon FB this year, WVSU actually had a manager spill a Gatorade on the floor to get a stop.
NOt sure what went wrong?
Handlers telling a kid what to do egged on by promises from a caoch coming into a situation where he felt he needed to pad his roster for insurance knowing full well he would not use half of the players there. Instead of the kid coming to U where he would have made a difference and having a good shot at getting a degree he opted for the "big school" to appease his handlers and it turned out miserably.
I had this conversation with a parent and a coach last night after y 3rd game of the day. The kids dad wants him at Michigan or IU. While I really enjoy seeing S tu Douglass and Zach NOvak at Michigan with Bacari and TOwnsend I dont see this kid making it in the big ten due to physical factors. Everybody is in on him BC, St JOhns, Butler , X etc but I think he is a MAC/Horizon player who can reach for the stars but like DJ would excell at a certain leve but will ultimately end up unhappy and sitting as the expectations are unrealistic. I hae beenwatching him play since 5th grade, watching his progression. I would always steer kids to a place where they can contribue early and excel and love the campus/ student body and get their degree rather than try to get onto a place they are gona sit and hate and eventually transfer. I often steer parents to Jeff Goodmans transfer list whichis getting bigger every year before they make their choice.
Wills handlers made bad choice. Huggy bear screwed a kid out of a career and seemingly has no remorse or emotional investment. THe kid himself is suffering but probably regrets the day he let his posse make the choices he should have been making. .
as for the style of west liberty, I had a chance to watch a school out of wisconsin d3 that did the same thing averaging like 143 a game. MADNESS! but entertaining.
