I feel that a 13 is a little low at this point...plus Marshall is a higher seed than us and we won head to head.

It's obviously very early but if they can beat Northern Iowa the seed might be a little higher.

This is probably four times in the last seven years that we have been listed in bracketology midway through the non-conference portion of our schedule. 

It is always around MAC play that we drop out and end up outside of the MAC top four. 

I do hope this is the year that changes though.

That begs me to ask why anyone would actually read and take any stock into bracket predictions? I wouldn't as everything beyond the autobids is determined roughly by RPI and specifically by the selection committee.

Beating UNI would be a big boost but doing well in MAC play is more important.  Even with a loss to UNI if we go 13-3 in conference or something like that (assuming winning the rest of our OOC games)  would put us at 26-5 entering the MAC Tourney.  Lose in the final and we are at 28-6 with an RPI probably somewhere in the 20s.  We would be looking at a 10 seed.  Lunardi just put us at 13 because that's about where the MAC has been.  We haven't had a team put it all together since 2003.  But the MAC regular season is going to be where our seeding is made. 

Of course, mapping it and doing it are two different things but we have put together the resume so far.  I think a lot of people are cautiously optomistic right now but we've been burned so many times before that people are afraid to get too excited. That's the way I'm looking at it.  But this team has a couple things that we haven't had in a long time, defense and depth.  We still have some worrisome areas (rebounding) but we've able to compensate for that a little.

Even if OHIO doesn't win another non-conference game I would say this squad at a minimum is looking at 20 wins. Eight wins in the non-conference, 12 in the MAC (10-6 regular season, 2 in Cleveland) makes 20 wins. The squad is improving and looks pretty capable of making a serious run at the conference title. You guys are right that serious progress is measured by MAC regular season play and our ability to become a regular NCAA type program is dependent on it.

Nobody puts any stock in them. It's just an interesting thing to talk about on a message board. Last time I looked the top 50 MAC players of the last 20 years or the top 15 Ohio players all time wasn't really worth all that much.  Almost nothing really matters on a message board but some things are fun to talk about.

Exactly. The AP Top 25 rankings in college hoops is the most superfluous thing about the sport. When you have a playoff system, why do you need to rank them?

Because it's fun. Because it drives conversation. Because it makes a small program like Ohio that makes it into the Top 25 a monumental thing.
