Well his % is low BECAUSE he takes so many shots.
Not true in DJ's case. He took more shots in his sophomore year and made them at a higher percentage than his freshman year. He's shooting 42% from 2 this year (close to his career numbers) and 22% from 3. He's just not a good three-point shooter, yet he continues to shoot a lot of threes.
He also leads the team in PPG and MPG and overall points.
PPG and overall points are not good ways to evaluate a player.
I just don't think that the leader of our team should be getting the criticism he does when there are plenty (and I say plenty, but we're a good team right now) of other problems that we can magnify if we are going to pick on his problems.
There is criticism of other players. Smith tends to play soft. Ivo can't relax out there and isn't going with the flow. It's not an either/or proposition here; we can talk about anyone and everyone. And I don't understand why being good should make you immune. Speaking for myself, I want DJ to be the best player possible. I see a weakness in his game and I point it out. I don't use malicious language or say he's a bad player. Why is this out of bounds?
The ironic thing is this gets blown out of proportion not by the people who make these criticisms but by the people who apparently get upset by them. We get accused of harping on it, but that's because people like the OP bring it up and we defend our positions. If this thread had not been started, nobody would be saying anything right now. DJ played great in Portland. Nobody was unhappy with his performance, yet we're having this conversation again. I didn't start it.
