Enrique Freeman.
And no one recruited him. Groce's staff saw him walking on campus as a freshman and asked if he'd like to try out for a position as a practice player.
Why this cannot be possible that there are fantastic athletes walking on campuses and not playing a sport. Why I recall being ridiculed on the football thread when we were down to one healthy running back to find someone on campus to join the team. It was like I had blasphemed.

Mr. Freeman should give Groce a cut of his huge potential European earnings for finding him!

You say Ohio has nobody covering the team on a regular basis ...

Guess what: If I'm not mistaken the only MAC team with a dedicated newspaper reporter these days is Toledo.

BG, Akron, Kent, Miami and Ohio have none.

I remember the old days when Columbus papers covered the Cats, Dayton/Cincinnati papers covered Miami, Cleveland paper covered Akron and Kent, Toledo paper covered Rockets and BG.

Man, the world has changed.

Akron has one. George Thomas. He's horrible but has been covering the Zippers for 10 plus years.

. . .Yeah, let's push [Gabe] to D2. Maybe we start 5 guards next year. As much as I like Boals his recruiting is mediocre, certainly not up to par with Saul.
So far, that last statement appears to be true, unless some of our freshman have potential we’ve not yet seen manifest. However, to state such an opinion is pure blasphemy on this board. You may be doxxed and then tarred and feathered and run out of your hometown on a rail! Boals, however, can make things right by showing with next year’s class that he’s improved his ability to recruit freshmen and work the portal.
Boals recruits have been sub-par. The numbers speak for themselves. But Leon wants us to start 5 guards next year. I wondered why he chose to not reply to my prior post.

Then why did he get like 20 scholarships on the same level as Louisville?
Regarding the missed opportunity for a dunk, did you ever thing he maybe thought he'd get an plus 1? I mean his FT shooting is at 74 percent. Yeah, let's push him to D2. Maybe we start 5 guards next year. As much as I like Boals his recruiting is mediocre, certainly not up to par with Saul.
He got those scholarship offers because he's a 7 footer with mobility and those guys get offers.

But the sample size is big enough now that talking about his offers is old news. We're seeing what he is on the floor.

Sorry Mid70s....impossible for me to read and respond to every post. Appreciate the shoutout. Please find where I said we should start 5 guards next season? I have repeatedly said in multiple threads that our "starting center" for 2023-2024 is not currently on our roster and will be plucked from the portal.

As for going smaller, you must be referring to me this season pleading for Boals to limit the Whiz minutes even more or keep him on the bench altogether. I'd rather play Elmore or even Hadaway at the center position when DWIII needs a rest. I guarantee you Elmore and Hadaway would get more rebounds than the Whiz.

Again...NOT a sky is falling loss. The 19-3 run towards the end of the 1st half was everything...they could not miss. I agree the Boals tech was bad, especially because the foul call he was upset about was DEFINITELY a foul. I think we showed we are pretty even with Akron. These next 3 are important but I am hopeful we can be 6-5 when we see the Zips again in Athens.

yes

they have a new reporter that is pretty good at asking the questions of coach that fans want to know. No fluff. Real reporting. Good feedback from the locals after Whitford got years of the press not putting his feet to the fire

Of course it helps to have a Coach willing to air it out.
