Did not know that. Still, glad to see AJ getting important minutes.

Ballsy play by Boals. Huge pass by Rod.

In my head - and probably everyone else’s - screen and a prayer by AJ or Jaylin.

Even thought maybe it’d be an alley oop and hopefully a foul.

Entry pass and let DW3 bully in it? Awesome. Grown man shit.

Happy as hell to win, but damn…you always always always always foul up 3 with under 10 seconds to go. Hope Boals learns from this.

Now can we keep AJ in a Bobcat uniform for three years?
Sitting a few rows behind the bench, and hearing how unhappy Boals was with the possession on that last 3, I’d be willing to bet he wanted to foul.

Youngstown was shooting 94% from FT.

OU was shooting 60%.

Smart to not get into a FT battle when you can't shoot FT and the other team is lights out.

Except if you’re up 3 with around 5 seconds like when Cohill crossed half court, and you foul, they have to make one miss one and get the rebound then make the shot off the round just to tie. I’ll take my chances with that vs a pull up 3. Not exactly a FT battle

Eastern Ky
Marshall
Indiana St
Evansville
St. Francis PA

On the road whenever we can:
OSU
Cincinnati
Xavier
Pitt
Michigan
Michigan St
Kentucky
Louisville
Indiana
Purdue

Yes, but it is still not a sure thing.

Recall a four point Bobcat lead vs NC in Nashville.

First free throw made; second missed; giant Tyler Zeller bats the rebound out to the top of the circle and BANG, a three is made and a somewhat comfortable lead is gone just that quick!

It was a no brainer. From a probability standpoint fouling was the best way to get the W without the nonsense than ensued.

Does it change anything that they were in double bonus? Single bonus - foul and only one shot is guaranteed and a good chance at the rebound, but does two guaranteed shots change the strategy?

Why no love for Northern Kentucky? Cincinnati is a big alumni area so we'd draw well and they're a top mid from Horizon. Arena is pretty nice too.

I'd add the Detroit schools, Detroit and Oakland into that list as well.

If you're trying to get some more exposure into Indiana and are going to put Indiana St on that list then you have to include Valparaiso and maybe IP Ft Wayne and IUPUI. For that matter I'd add Butler to the play when you can list.

Lots of good regional options IMO.

I agree. I've said that for years. But for some reason most coaches seem not to agree with this and don't respect the brilliance of our line of thinking. Over the years, I've seen very few coaches that have their teams tour in situations like this.

Never said it was a sure thing. Not having hard data, I’d still wager that the make / miss / tip out happens far less than even a contested 3.

Not for me. Just feels to me like the probability of a make a miss a rebound and a make is far less than a contested 3.

I agree. There were a few I forgot to add. If we considered all the D1 schools in Ohio and bordering states, we could fill out a nice schedule every year. Obviously, the P5 programs would likely be road games. It would be great to play 2 or 3 of those a year.

Watch a lot of MAC games on ESPN+ and thought the YSU announcers were as good as I've heard. Their impartiality was one reason and their knowledge of the visiting team another. The impartiality really stuck out after watching some of the Kent game Saturday at Cleveland St. Listening to that crew reminded me how much of a homer those two announcers were last year when Ohio played at Cleveland St. Almost unbearable.

Listen to the YSU press conference and their coach talking about the same bleachers from 50 years ago at the Beeghly Center. This guy is going to bolt for the first job offer from a school that emphasizes men's basketball, even if it appears to be a "lateral" job.

This is a good win. Honestly I was a little annoyed to be considered a 6 point underdog against YSU. If you look at their results, they've had a pretty good season scoring a bunch of points...but I still think we're better so if I were a gambling man I would have taken those points all day. Glad I was proven right.

YSU had 3 desperation threes that all fell, a late shot clock in each half plus the one at the end which was well defended and a very tough shot. Those 9 points were huge for YSU.

This was Jaylin Hunter's game all the way. Very much a Mark Sears like game, some mind bending drives to the hoop and all around great ball skills dishing 7 assists, grabbing 3 steals and being very efficient with well selected shots behind the arc to go 3 for 4. He was absolutely outstanding. I don't expect his shooting to be that good very often but he has GREAT ball skills.

Baker also had a much better night of shooting than he has so far. Much better shot selection.

I again say Clayton has clearly improved 500% in rebounding, both his committing to doing it and his execution. It's been huge lately and will be huge come MAC play.

AJ Brown needs 25+ minutes a game, if that comes in the form of a 6th man like it did in this game that is fine with me...but he needs to be in there. He is already a well above average player in the MAC. Keep him happy and growing this year and he can come back and be our leading scorer next year.

I'm still not sure an 11 man rotation is sustainable (and that is counting Adelodun out). I like the other 3 freshmen a lot but barring injuries they may ultimately have to wait until next year to get much of a chance to prove their worth.

From the Wash. Post:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Dwight Wilson's shot bounced softly off the rim about five times before falling through after time expired, lifting Ohio to an 81-79 win over Youngstown State on Sunday.

Reminded me of Leon Williams rim roller for the Mac Championship.

Just got a chance to watch this one and that was a great win!

AJ Brown does indeed have the goods, as others have stated here. I think he might already be the best off ball guard we've had here since I started following around the beginning of the Saul era. He's our best on ball defender, makes tough shots created by himself, and knocks down open threes. The shot he made with 50 seconds left in the first half in the paint after a drive and 2 pivots over a defender was a prime example. We haven't had anyone who could take or make those shots in the years I have seen. The guy needs to be starting and playing 30 minutes.

At this point I'd say he should be playing over Baker if everyone is fully healthy, and let Baker come off the bench for Miles and Hunter for 20 minutes a game. If he gets hot, play him 25 minutes. But Hunter, Miles and AJ Brown are the most consistent at this point. I think Sheldon will fall out of the rotation come MAC play, evidenced by Elmore James subbing in for Hunter for a possession towards the end of the game and letting Baker play PG for a possession instead of trusting Sheldon with it at this point. He'll get there, just don't think he's ready for a big role yet. Roderick can spell AJ Brown and AJ Clayton against certain teams, and Wiz for Wilson. Those are the top 8 clearly at this point, and Hadaway possibly for Clayton if we need more size instead of playing Roderick there.

Also, I love watching Dwight Wilson spin blindly into double teams, but not caring and bullying his way into two points anyway. That guy is an animal.

Tremendous recap here and spot on. I have to believe the bench gets shortened as well as we get closer and closer to MAC play.

We might get our wish of seeing AJ start on Wednesday night because of the Miles injury. I'm guessing after missing the last 8 minutes of Youngstown State game that there is a chance we might not see Miles against the Gators. What a homecoming this could be for AJ. Making your first collegiate start...in your home state against the Gators. Boals should make it happen anyway. He deserves it.
