Don't mind losing a game straight up, we had every chance to pull this game out last night, even with the missed foul shots in crucial times and the 3 for 26 3 point shooting. We got out scrapped and out Hustled for loose balls and on the Glass last night. That is totally unexceptable to me.  When shots aren't falling you have to turn it up a notch and get after it,  we didn't do that last night and it cost us the game. Learn from it and move on because we got a MAC Championship to win !

I didn't get to see as much as some did, but Russ & Rob made it clear we did get out hustled to a lot of loose balls and rebounds.

I know the stats verify that we were out hustled.  But when watching the game, it didn't appear that way.  It seemed that RMU had many bounces go their way.  That being said, that's still no excuse for not turning it up a notch.

Some of it was hustle. Some of it was luck.  I thought early on we weren't nearly as aggressive as they were especially on the help defense.  We did okay down the lane but we let them drive on the outside without help.  Plus once we missed our first few open threes we stopped looking for them. Most of our threes the rest of the first half were late in the shot clock.  RMU dictated the game and how it was going to be played.  Velton Jones is very good. His strength really gave us fits.

Groce addressed this in the post game interview on the radio.  He said Ohio did not get outhustled at all.  I don't think they did either.  He said the problem was entirely with execution.  The team did a bad job of shot selection and ball movement on offense.  The had obvious rotation issues on defense.  He also said he told the team that effort sometimes is not enough, and last night's game is an example of that.  There were a ton of loose balls RMU got, but remember we forced 31 turnovers.  That happens from hustling.  We could not grab the ball for some reason and shot 3-26 from behind the arc.  OU almost won in spite of themselves.  This is a good team that had a bad night.

i didn't feel we were outhustled - not to a startling degree, at least. You couldn't count the number of loose balls that seemed to just bounce right to an RMU player. It was kinda creepy.

I agree that we were outhustled. I also agree the players gave good effort. I do not think these have to be mutually exclusive.

Agreed. Teams that aren't giving effort don't force 31 turnovers.  I think RMU just played a style that really frustrated us.  Almost nobody caught a pass where they were in good shape to do anything.

I agree that RMU's zone was very effective because Ohio was not hitting threes at a normal rate.  They picked their poison, our three point shooting, and the strategy worked because we couldn't throw one in the ocean most of the time.

Also give them credit for executing well on offense when they weren't turning it over.  They are very strong physically and took advantage of it.

IT WAS EXECUTION, REBOUNDING AND SHOOTING.   WE CREATED  31 TURNOVERS.  A TEAM WAS NOT OUT HUSTLED OR DID NOT HAVE THE LACK OF ENERGY.  WE TOOK 3'S AND HAD NO REBOUNDING POSITION.  WE  MISSED TWO DUNKS, 23 -3'S, THAT IS ALL EXECUTION.  I FEEL THAT GROCE'S  QUOTES WERE A  CORRECT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

There we're several occasions and I mean several,  that RM beat us to the ball on their end of the floor for an offensive rebound. Sure the ball took a wicked bounce a few times but not many, RM just flat ass out played us on their end of the floor. No way a team should give up 11 offensive rebounds and RM scored on most of them on put backs. We we're NOT aggressive enough going after the rebound and RM was and it cost us big time.

I agree with all this.  Only other matter of substance is that i think that most of our three point shots were not great looks--we weren't real set (foot position and balance) and RMU contested most of our threes.  RMU seemed to hit a pretty good number of threes--and their shots were good (not much contested by us, their shooters set and in balance).
