He only got one steal and one point to his credit, but I thought Goard was huge in causing many of those turnovers. He was subbed in basically every dead ball chance where Robert Morris was going to inbound and then came back out at the next whistle. He was getting a lot of deflections and making it hard for the Colonials to get the ball in cleanly.

From Coach Groce:

“I thought he was really good. His role is hard. I’m putting him in and out of the game. That’s hard to do, especially for a freshman. I’ve had a couple of talks with him. I said, ‘Hey, I want you to do this because I think you could be really good at it if you buy in. I give him credit because the last two games, he’s bought in. He goes in there. Like anybody, he wants to play more. That’s the nature of the beast. I thought he was really instrumental in forcing those turnovers. He was really good in our press and that’s why we put him in. I thought he was really active. He got a lot of deflections. He’s good at that. He’s a good athlete and I’m excited about what he can become. I don’t think he’s even scratched the surface yet.”

+1 as well. Can't wait to what what the conditioning program does for him over the next couple years.

Completely agreed. I've been really happy with what Goard's been able to give in limited run this year. It's nice to see a program player or two who can come in and contribute at a basic level, but should also be able to develop over time in classes like these.

From what little I've seen, he's a terrific athlete but not much on drilled-in skills offensively.  He reminds me of what Tennessee did to us in the tournament after we beat Georgetown:  long, lithe, can't escape it defense.

I'm betting that in high school he scored because of fantastic height and athletic ability.  That won't work at this level.  Seems to me that he needs to add each of these things in this order:  lock-down shot from 15 feet in, take it to the hoop from about 15 feet and in on one dribble, post moves (espec 'cause he could have a lot of advantage mis-matches between height and quickness), and 3-point shot.   Practice, practice, practice, muscle/mental memory.

The young man has  a world of potential.  And I think that he's chosen an excellent school at which to develop his talent.

I agree TyQuane is a problem when the opposing team inbounds pretty sure he will help win a game or two with his defense.

This is a highly unusual thread.  I agree with every single post so far.  I think this young man is very talented and will have great future at OHIO.  I love the "team spirit" he shows in taking on this role that the coach has assigned him.

It can't be easy going in knowing that all the team wants you to do is jump up and down in front of the guy throwing the ball in and then you're going to get taken out at the first chance. But he did a great job of it on Monday night and I hope it continues. Beyond that, his potential to do other things in the future is very good.

Personally, I think Tyquane is farther ahead than Devaughn was at this point in his career. Love seeing someone who plays defense that hard. Can't wait to see what he'll bring the rest of the year and the next 3.

Goard is gonna be a high flyer just like Devaughn and i wouldnt be surprised if you see his minutes increase towards the end of the season. According to his twitter he is always in the gym putting up shots trying to get better. Sometimes right after the game. Coach has to love that.
