So that's why I didn't go to a private school.

I guess I'm a little torn.

 Is requiring "retraining" dumb? Yes.

Was the student body partially responsible for the fight? Maybe.  I saw mention that a certain chant came from the students right before the fight.  Though I don't know exactly what was said, I can assure you that thousands encouraging me to do something would impact me.  Especially in such a already heated moment.

So if the admin think the students were partially responsible and want to punish them, so be it.  Just go and suck it up, no need to get all "occupy" about it.

Sounds a lot like my catholic high school.  I wonder what that chant was.

And it's exactly why a lot of kids (and their parents) do.  Choices.
Remember the BYU fornication suspensions?  Everyone seems to have moved on from that one OK.

I have to say, if I'm a student who was there, and I'm asked to go to this, the first thing I see from the outside looking in is, "What about the guys that were actually part of the fight that only got these small suspensions?"

Xavier dropped the ball on this one from the beginning.  To me, they continue to look the more ridiculous of the two schools.

They've also not performed very well on the court!

Hope this doesn't mean they're vampires.

This is definitely one of those times where I think to myself "man, I'm glad that isn't us". That school looks really stupid right now.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't it. I don't remember hearing that chant at all.

IF, and that's a pretty big IF, the students had anything to do with the rise in tension with the fight is because of the chant they had for UC guard Sean Kilpatrick. For those of you who don't know, he went on a talk radio show two days before the game and was questioned about Tu Holloway for Xavier. He mentioned he was a great player...but then he made the comment that "he probably wouldn't start for UC" or something of that sort.

It got blown WAAAAAY out of proportion, so the Xavier students took offense. I think the chant was either "F Kilpatrick" or something similar to that, I can't really recall. But that's as far as it went from the student point of view. It was just like any other heated rivalry game. Nothing worse than what the O Zone does, and certainly nothing as creative.

Don't kid yourself, the players brought this on themselves. Their motto for that game and I think for the whole season was "zip 'em up." Now, that can be distorted several ways, but most people have taken it as zip 'em up in body bags.

I've said it from the beginning that Xavier has done nothing short of terrible in their handling of this situation. I'm surprised the SID still has a job after the press conference disaster.

Mark Lyons said in the post game press conference to the reporters- "y'all amp it up so much its like y'all make it animosity, we didn't do this." In other words, its not his fault its everybody else's. Trying to punish the students just further supports this lack of responsibility. Glad to see the blowback was enough to cancel the re-education camp.

That comes right *after* they came to blows, not before... And frankly, in that kind of situation where you can't see clearly what's happened, I doubt my reaction would be much different.

Agred anorris. By that time, everyone was thinking to themselves "what the F?" anyways. The whole thing is just ridiculous. I actually applaud UC for dealing with it and moving on. Xavier is making themselves look worse and worse and worse by coming out with more stuff that doesn't even matter. Just let it gooooo...

Further, does anyone really think these Xavier students care about these "reflection" sessions? No. They will attend just so they can get a ticket for the other games. They'll do the speel, and not pay a lick of attention to what is going on or what is being said.

BTW all Xavier alumni, including myself, received an email with a video from President Michael Graham, S.J. regarding the brawl and how Xavier is above all of that. Their damage control tactics are a tad bit annoying.
