Worst venue in Ohio? The Schott. Ohio State had one of the greatest arenas in college basketball history and traded it for luxury box money, maroon seats and all the atmosphere of a shopping mall. Borna talked about chill factor and when you stood on the floor at St. John Arena, it was there in full force.

Three years ago, I probably would have agreed.  The decision to relocate a few thousand season ticket holders in favor of a courtside student section has paid huge dividends.  I was at the Duke game, and 'shopping mall' is hardly the term I'd use to describe the atmosphere that night.  It's nowhere near the Convo, but to say the Schott is worse than Millett is laughable.  That place is awful.

Miami and Buffalo both debuted new scoreboards this month. For those who find this matter important, we're probably in the conference's bottom third in this category now.

The original post cited the Toledo coach's opinion of facilities.  So in my brief assessment, I didn't take atmosphere or attendance into consideration.  Just facilities.

I always thought Millet was sedate and theateresque. Back in the day the Convo was by far the best in the MAC. I know others have built new arenas, but  I have to believe ours is still the only one with a big time feel.

I agree the Schott has improved in atmosphere, but it's still never going to be as good as St. John in that category.  Ever.

Having not been to a bunch of other arenas and only knowing what I know based on this board's commentary or my obsession of reading about arenas/stadiums, I'd say we're absolutely in the bottom third in the scoreboard category.  Which leads me to the question for those that know:  What would be involved in moving the scoreboards in the Convo up higher - as in up high behind the baskets?  Seems like the scoreboards we have are okay, and maybe could just be moved to a better spot.

Found my pix from the "It takes a Purdue Engineer" thread that was lost. Hanging the board fromthe same ceiling as the COnvo and the individual player/message boards on the back walls. I have not been back since the renovations were complete but those on the back walls were very readable and the screeens were fantastic with Hi def.

Scoreboards in the concourse?  Now that is a basketball environment!  I'd just enjoy radio broadcasts pumped into the bathrooms and concession stands.

That awkward moment when Russ Eisenstein screams out BANG! as you drop a deuce.

The feeling you get when you bite into a moderately chewy pretzel and Rob Cornelius' commentary about Ivo Baltic's post moves somehow fits how you feel about this pretzel.

This is what Ohio Basketball could be, my friends. How it could be if we just dreamed.

Except for one thing: Purdue spends more money on athletics than we do.
