National TV is nice, but good luck getting a student out of bed that early on a Saturday morning. Better have coffee and donuts at the entrance.

Damn, I was really hoping for a night game since that Saturday is Scripps Day. Now I won't be able to go.
Didn't we have another 11AM ESPNU game 2 or 3 seasons ago? I think it was against Buffalo and I remember a much smaller OZone than traditional afternoon games.

Yeah, but it was a Sunday, which is worse, and we weren't a good team that year.
I could actually see this as an opportunity for the O Zone and marketing to get creative. Some of the schools that play at 6AM as part of that ESPN tipoff marathon have done some things. Iunno, do a promotion involving wearing pajama gear with an O Zone shirt. Think along those lines.

Need to look at it differently. Gives lots and lots of time for Saturday afternoon day drinking.

Starting times like this are absurd. I say reject the U and schedule it for the best time.

Is that even an option? I assume the MAC sold it's soul to ESPN, Inc. to get a TV deal. If not, I'll instigate the weekday football insurrection myself.

I'm with you on this Jeff. My motto would be "screw the U." When we show up at 11 am on tv on a Saturday morning (that would be 8 west coast time), we come off as a Saturday morning cartoon. Give me Sky King, Penny and Songbird over this less than absurd game time.

Puts us right up there with the MAAC, the Northeast and some of the other lower-rung East Coast conferences that play games at times reserved for intramurals. At least with the mid-week football games you get prime time exposure. This, however, is just plain dumb.

I sure hope everyone shows up -- Ball State is a quality MAC opponent. And, I think this game is the annual "Be Blue Day" to support and recognize people who have or are battling prostate cancer.

Central timezone teams play at 11 fairly regularly, including Big 12, SEC, & MVC. Missouri & Texas are tipping off at 11 next week.

hopefully the students will be embrace the uniqueness of this start time and have fun with it, like the blackout against Temple.

Also puts us up there with #14 Florida and Tennessee who are playing today at 11:00 AM

THis whole thread is sublimely ridiculous.
At a real basketball school fans turn out whenever. You all talk about wanting to take it to the next level and then piss and moan when being at the next level does not fit your social schedule. Look at real basketball schools where getting to the game is a priority and not just a convenience. If College Gameday was there the students would be out at 6am to fill up the tv screen and for a 10 pm tip time they would not leave at halftime. Those schools are on at all times of the day and their fan boards don't really have much discussion about who is going to show up and not based on the time or chirch or anything else. I aksed a couple of years ago if this fanbase was ready to actually step up to the next level. I am not convinced we have taken those steps with regard to money, time or effort.
I will be at the game wearing Bobcat gear and supporting the team no matter what time of day or distance. I hope for this University, team and program others are committed to what they actually think they want and follow through with more than lip service and excuses. (getting off soapbox, sorry if you are already in the choir)

Well...keep in mind that most of the people who occasionally complain about scheduled game times SHOW UP ANYWAY for all the games. Most of the true believers on here adjust their schedules so they can be at all the home games. And some of us set our schedules so we can get to quite a few away games, too.

Well, attending basketball games is a social event for 99% of people. I'm probably low-balling that percentage.

Should we consider going to games a priority?

This is very important. We don't want to get this wrong. We don't want to do this at a bad, inconvenient time.
So, first we should poll every student so that we understand each on an indivicual level when is the best time and place and opponent.
Then, we should schedule for each individual student a game that fits their needs because this is all about personal convenience and what's best for the person. I realize that this means that we'll have to play about 3000 games on a given day or days in order to satisfy every one. But that's the way it should be.
Stick it.

Noticed that this past Saturday UConn and ND were on ESPN2 at 11 a.m., so it's not just the non-"power" conferences that get the early tip. The had a good raucous crowd.
