When I criticize my own bad play, am I not supporting myself?

Go check how many people got their tires slashed in Athens, Ohio, last year. You'd be shocked to learn 100 percent of those instances weren't due to criticism on a message board.

Yeah I'm gunna go out on a limb here and agree.  Yes these are basketball players but they are also people with lives outside of basketball.

How many times we have seen DJ get technicals this year for mouthing off, most recently in the face of 7-footer Zeke Marshall.  In the game of life you don't just give up free throws, sometimes you get your tires cut when you mouth off.

Not saying that is definitely what happened, but to suggest it was because of critical message board postings is laughably pompous.

The original post was about DJ Cooper having all 4 of his tires flattened while the team was on the roadtrip to Akron.  In my OPINION (that could be completely wrong), the post suggested that some people's criticism of DJ's play recently may have had something to do with it. A disgruntled fan slashing tires? I don't know...I highly doubt it. I'm confused as to why the person who posted this basically blamed other posters for this happening?  As stated by someone else...these are student-athletes who have lives outside of basketball. DJ has a much bigger social group outside of basketball than the amount of people praising/criticizing him on this site. So I assume those people are to blame.  ...And to title this thread "Hate crime"....I realize not always, but hate crimes USUALLY suggest racism; which is completely irrelevant in this instance.  I don't know I'm just really confused....ok I'm done rambling.

I'm sorry, Dennis, but you're way off base here. With zero evidence, you came just short of blaming us for a crime. And if you're judging by this thread, we didn't even crack jokes. You're just 100% wrong here.

Can you "edit" a new post if you started it? If so BobcatGman, why not just edit the thread subject title to blank, then all edit their replies to delete all comments. That is unless we could all Vote on a poll to have administrators delete the whole thing (or they just do that) - ? I see nothing whatsoever of value or anything remotely potentially productive happening here - and nothing but potential degradation and further rumour mongering, heresay, and ill will in the making.

I'm very confused by this thread.  By the time I got to it, the original post had been deleted but someone else tried to summarize it -- but I don't know how accurate that summary was.  I'll just say this, Gman is one of my favorite posters on this board, and one of my favorite people.  I hope he reconsiders his decision to leave the board.  It'll be a much poor place without him.  C'mon Gman, we love you and don't want you to leave.  Please come back!!

For the record, I would be very dubious of any suggestion that DJ's tires being slashed were the result of someone on this board criticizing his recent play.  I'm not saying it couldn't have happened, but I would say that would be one of the last places that I would look for a possible cause.  There are deranged people out there and we've even had a few deranged posters from time to time (present company excepted, but MH55 included).  Deranged people can act on strange motivations and it's not unheard of for message boards to put ideas into a less than sane mind.  However, I wouldn't make this kind of a charge unless there was some evidence pointing in that direction.  As far as I know there isn't any such evidence, but then again I really don't know what this thread is about, and I may not know what I'm talking about.  Wouldn't be the first time.  Right BL?

I respect the support for your fellow Bobcat fan and friend, but he was out of line in his original post.  And the fact that he's deleted it and now "disappeared" from the board doesn't make him look very good either. Whether or not I was 100% accurate in summarizing his original post doesn't matter...I read it perfectly clear and he was definitely suggesting that the negative criticism from people on this site had something to do with what happened. He said things like "life is too damn short"..."grow up people", etc. I don't appreciate someone who doesn't  even know myself and others at all making assumptions and then scolding us like they're a superior.  ....And is no one else phased by the title of the thread, "Hate crime"? Come on now, that's just opening the wrong can of worms.  Could have simply titled it "unfortunate incident"  He was wrong to post that, period. Nothing will change my mind about this one.

First of all, I'm probably one of D.J.'s biggest supporters on this site.  I agree that sometimes people are too hard on D.J. but I don't think it's over the top.  Slashing tires is waaaay over the top but there is absolutely no evidence or even a hint that it would have anything to do with this forum.  To hint at it, which is exactly what you did is ridiculous.

As for the criticism of his play, while I don't agree with much of it, welcome to the big leagues. It comes with the territory. If you think this board is bad you need to take a look at some of the other BCS boards with 10,000 members.  I am a frequenter of several forums and this is by far the most level headed and cordial.

Here is a line by line summary:
  1. Various posters very lightly suggest possible areas for improvement in DJ's game, mostly involving shot selection.  Almost every statement is preceded with praise for DJ.
  2. Gman freaks out on posters as if they said DJ is the worst player in the history of the world.
  3. (quiet time goes by)
  4. Gman posts a message entitled "Hate Crime" eluding to DJ's car being vandalized while the team was away at Akron, and in the same message brings up the history discussed in point #1.
  5. Various posters make the obvious connection that Gman thinks it is at least possible a poster decided to get back at DJ for his alleged poor shot selection by slashing his tires.
  6. Various posters respond with how incredibly ridiculous it is make this connection AND to post about it.
  7. Gman freaks out on posters as if there was nothing wrong with his message.
  8. Gman swears off the use of BobcatAttack, apparently because various posters frequently "bash" players, coaches, etc.
  9. Gman deletes his original post, blatantly saying he realizes his original post was ridiculous.
  10. Various posters get confused because the original post and apparently Gman are both gone.
