Yeah Bob Hunter did a nice job too, I've emailed with him before and know he wishes the sports editor of the Dispatch would let him cover the MAC more.  Glad that their editor finally gave up some resources to get a good two days of coverage for this weekend.

I was disappointed his dad, Dexter, was not there to take part in the event!  I knew his dad, and I would have thought he would be there!!

    Different era, with different budgets and available space, but I remember when dispatch writer Tim May used to be in Athens for what seemed like most of the games back in the early 1980s. May, osu inc. football beat writer for the dispatch the past 15 years, used to have a beer or two, with Danny Nee tending bar, in Tony's after most of those games. I used to pick his brain, as a student in Scripps at the time, with May answering in his Texas drawl.

I know that Gary being from the Columbus area had a lot to do with it (and I'm sure Hunter would rather spend a January Saturday in Athens than Lincoln), but it's still great to see the Dispatch giving more than just lip service to some real positives on the OU campus.  Friday they even had a story about the big increase in applications, especially out-of-state applications, at OU:

Don't know if there's a direct tie to athletics but I'm sure having the football team on ESPN six times during Nov. and Dec. didn't hurt.

I think the fact OU has several central Ohio kids makes it a lot more interesting to the central Ohio market.
