Check out the Kalamazoo Gazette article on our newslinks.  Very complimentary about the Convo environment and our team.

I've been reading that kind of reaction in a number of places. The question is why aren't there more MAC teams out there on our level.  I think Toledo and Ball State are the two schools that have had that kind of environment before but are just getting through rough times.  Surprised Ball State hasn't come back stronger. Toledo will probably take another year or so.  Still don't understand why Miami does so poorly supporting basketball.

I figure Toledo will eventually be good on attendance.

Ball State surprises me also.  Their program is back on track but their attendance/environment at Worthen is still spotty.  Guess they do well when they host Butler and Indiana.  At one time, that place was hopping for MAC games too.

Western does have some impressive wins.  As JSF mentioned, a double digit win on the road at Oakland.
Home wins over Duquesne, Milwaukee and Toledo.

Stat sheet shows their glaring weaknesses to be handling the ball and lack of ability to steal the ball.

Opponents' FG percentage not bad, but they foul a good bit.

They rebound the ball well.

As others have pointed out, we gotta rebound well, prevent a lot of stick backs, and we need to force some turnovers and get out in transition.

Hoerdemann has a really good percentage from three, but no one else seems to be a major threat, though anyone can have a big night.

Overall, I'd say they are a very inconsistent team.  It all depends on which team shows up and about matchups.  Ohio has to exploit matchup advantages while limiting Western's advantages.

I was at the Ball State game last night sitting 2 nd row under the home basket. (yes I am a serial seat upgrader) and looked around. Given that I had a green sweater on I did kind of stick out and got plenty of comments but there were just not that many people there (even with Hightower and Wymer stealing the show). In Convo announced and adjusted numbers I would say 38oo.....not sure what the put down as attendance.

I am not sure about the attendance. BSU is an afterthought and unless I go to Macs or one of the many places that have POSTERS hanging inside the door I often forget or dont know there is a game. Dakich does a pretty good job reminding folks when the big 5 play....leaves out ISU, IUPUI and the rest while hyping PU, IU, ND (he is form the region) BSU and Buttdogs while amazingly opting to make sure he includes Evansville every once in a while (he and marty simmons have a mutual admiration society going on).

I chuckle when I go to the Miami pages explaining their attendance and the discussion of how we are not a rival because theirs are more geographic and the level of student OU attracts is from SEO and more like those who go to Marshall. EVERYTHING TUNJI said in the Video and more.

BG laments their attendance but also use their hockey team as an excuse. I dunno. I guess when Ball State had a great coach and put out great teams with guys who resonated in the community the place was packed, still did not draw like local HS games. It is puzzling how on a Friday or saturday nite you can  drw a 30 mile corcle around Munce and put 6K at Marion, 6 K at Muncie, 4K at Anderson, 8 k at New Castle plus fill  the gyms in 25 other local HS gyms in that circle and not just fill up WOrthen.

Western Mi press is very complimentary . Thanks for the heads up Jeff

When talking about MAC attendance I always throw these ideas out.

1.  The NCAA screwed the MAC back when it did the heavy lifting for mid-majors in the 1990s and early 2000s and did not give deserved multiple bids.  (Now the MVC And CAA and etc. get them.)  Fans and students learned that only March matters.
2.  Way too low basketball budgets
3.  The good coaches bolt quickly.  Especially through the 1990s and first few years of 2000s there were some very good coaches in the MAC and their replacements have been mediocre with mediocre (at best) recruiting.
5.  Some schools will never draw again (Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan) just because of who/what they are.
6.  The distractions of Al Gore's internet, TVs in dorm rooms, and the video gaming industry and etc.  Back in 1989 there was absolutely no reason for me and my buddies to stay in a dorm room/apartment on a Wednesday night or Saturday afternoon in the winter.  None.  That was boredom city.
7.  You might convince me that hockey plays a role at Miami and BG.  Maybe.

Just heard that Stainbrook is out. That's a big development.

No pun intended

Why exactly did we decide to (unsuccessfully) attempt ~47 3's to end the half?

Bobcats won on a nite the offense really struggled. Bobcats flexed the defense. Cooper hit enough of his hoist tonite to make a difference. 4 three's tonite. Had he hit he average we lose. Tonite he was hot from down town.

Best full case of well thought logic on the subject I have seen. Well done, and a BIG +1!
