We are a pretty good defensive team.  Our offense is hit and miss.  Seems to work best when the ball is in DJ's hands and he looks to create scoring (the other guys or himself) as opposed to right away trying to score on his own.

We have some good athletes who are not yet fine basketball players.

We're 17-4.  Good record.  But I can see why we're in every game--Dee-Fense--and why we find it difficult to put teams away--we're not a good shooting team and struggle at times..long stretches..to create open shots.

We seem to get pretty much the most out of our talent.

Almost everyone gave us a little today vs. Ball State.  Good to see Ethan out there for two stretches in the first half; only by playing can he develop game stuff.  Liked that he didn't hesitate to put up the mid-range jumper.  His defense--not so much.  Ricardo played well--defense, boards, a hoop or two, made free throws.  Offutt was strong when it counted.

I thought Reggie was the best today--a key jumper, made his free throws and very solid defense on Jones.  Reggie's a reason that we're in every game.

From the program perspective 17-4 record doesn't mean a whole lot. Whether we finish the season with 20, 22 or 25 wins isn't as important measure of progress as MAC record which is 5-2. If the Cats can finish somehow 11-5 or better in the MAC (23-7) regular season with a top 4 seed in the MAC tourney that is definitely progress in my book. Will this team make the NCAAs? Maybe but to sneak in again as a MAC 9 seed only to lose in the first round doesn't say a lot about the next level for this program which is a program that annually competes for the MAC regular season title like Kent State has for the past 15 years.

Monroe-an understatement about the offense.  I must admit I was at one of the grandkids games early this morning.  I did catch the last eight minutes though.  We missed a bunch of free throws and a few layups.  I continue to say just what is our offense?  To me it was nothing more than a weave 30 feet from the basket until the clock was at ten and then getting crappy shots (unless Offut went to the hoop).  I just don't get what we are trying to do, sorry.

I did think the defense did a much better job on the high pick and roll.  Ivo was finally guarding someone!  And the guards worked thru picks.

Let's face it, since the league started there have been a lot of ugly wins.  And, our point production is way down.  I'd like to see us get up and down the court and dictate tempo more.

I much prefer the ugly wins this team gets to the pretty losses of the past.

I think it's pretty obvious we better learn how to handle a zone as that's going to be what we see the rest of the year.  It's clearly got us stumped right now.

Agree.  But, a pretty 17-4 would be even better

I think the absence of senior leadership on the floor shows through in the offense sometimes.  There were two or three stretches where things got a little wild and the team looked out of control on the offensive end.  It took a Groce TO to calm things down.  A senior on the floor could've been a calming force.  DJ and Offutt show a lot of maturity but at times they too get caught up in frenzy.  We should have plenty of seniors on the floor next year, but right now we need someone to take charge when things get out of hand and settle things down.

I was saying this yesterday as well.  Both WMU and Ball St seemed like they went to zone after man didn't work.  We've got the guys to beat the zone IMO.  I just don't know if the way they're trying to play works against the zone.

At a glance, 17-4 now and everyone of note returning next year seems terrific.  The same guys will e better next year and we'll add some (recruits..do we have redshirts?).  But seem to really need a big man or two to improve a large step.

It part of the learning process. We've been getting better at rebounding, but we still have some bad games. We've learned how to play defense. We've learned how to attack the M2M. Now we need to learn how to attack the zone.

We have no more scholarships to give for next season.  Unless there is attrition, the only addition next year will be wing player Caris Levert of Pickerington Central.

When will we get back the one we lost?
