Anyone catch this from Russ yesterday?

https://twitter.com/russeisenstein/status/162569045232936...

Makes you wonder if this is his last season in Athens? 15 years calling games for one college at this level has to be extremely difficult financially. Hope he gets what he’s probably looking for outside of Athens.

There have been several moments over the years like this where we think it is a sign of something. I think Russ has felt he was moving on just about every year since he got here, and that is not a knock on him. It is a bit surprising he hasn't been plucked up the ladder but it a tough business. Whether here or elsewhere, the most important thing is he finds fulfillment in his work. We are lucky to have him.

Spot on. We are lucky to have Russ...easily one of the best play-by-play guys in the MAC. I guess it comes down to numbers. He's probably not doing great salary wise after all these years and his big break (like Boesch got at Michigan) obviously hasn't happened yet. But if he's happy in Athens great, but certainly his tweet yesterday paints a different picture and screams he wants a shot at something bigger and who can blame him. At the end of the day, you want your career to have financial rewards too.

His base pay is public record if anyone cares to look. I suspect and hope he gets some more for stuff like the network TV games. Still, I know everyone on here talks about how affordable Athens is, but I'm sure he wants a lot more coin and limelight than he gets calling games for the Bobcats.

So according to the OU Salary Database his Base Pay is $45,469. I was certainly expecting to see higher than that. I wonder what beyond Base Pay he may earn from the other networks when he does those games? Those prolly do not add a lot I would think.

Could this be a reference to something in his personal not professional life? Just a thought.

Athens is not affordable when it comes to housing, utilities and transportation (gas). This house on busy East State State Street just sold for $331. Crazy prices.

I’m really not qualified or have time to psychoanalyze that most common language known as cryptic Twitter. I’ll just say it’s been nice having stability and competence in that position.

Given the time demands and low pay, the perfect next hire might be someone who is retired/semi-retired who does it mostly for the love of it. Or I don’t know if Marty has interest. Which would be a perfect fit.

I have friends in town and agree that real estate and other monthly expenses are not below average at all. They're pretty similar to suburban Cleveland. I just point out that "Athens is dirt cheap" is a common refrain of people on here who likely judge the economics of the place based on how much a round of PBR costs Uptown. On that measure, Athens IS cheap!

$331 ain’t bad for that. I’d buy that if I could convince my wife of Athens. There’s a new 1,600 square foot house on my street that sold for $379, and I live in a place where there’s more fentanyl than toothpaste.

Probably. But it s always funny when athletes post cryptically and then get mad when they set off speculation.

That house is 100 years old, and you should probably check the property taxes on that house next.
