Final Akron 73, Ohio 64. This was about the expected result, as Akron came in at 9-2 and Ohio 2-9. After a jittery start when they fell behind 12-2, the Bobcats found their footing and stayed close most of the game, although they never got closer than 3 points. Yaya Felder scored 22 points, but it took her 27 shots to get there, as she was doubled for most of the game. Her inexperience showed at times, as she committed 8 turnovers when she had nowhere to go with the ball. Still, she stayed out of foul trouble, which is going to be critical for Ohio this year. She is also developing a nice chemistry with Abby Garnett, who blew away her career scoring high with 18 points, many on assists from Felder.
If Ohio is going to win enough games to make it to the MAC tournament, they are going to have to get scoring from other players. Caitlyn Kroll is the only senior on the squad, but scored zero points on 0-5 shooting tonight. Kate Dennis has showed some signs of being able to shoot from three, and hit a couple tonight, but is going to have to become more consistent. Jasmine Hale put on a late burst to end up with 10 points tonight.
Ohio only dressed 9 tonight, and essentially played 6. Kendall Hale and Ella Pope did not dress, but I think they were on the bench in street clothes, so hopefully they will be back soon. Ohio showed good energy in the fourth quarter despite being short-handed, which was an improvement from the Columbia game.

Thanks, Joe. I watched this game with my wife. We both thought that the team showed spunk and some chemistry that has generally been lacking in past games. YaYa, I think, is going to be as good as CeCe offensively, but much less of a ball hog -- more of a team player.

27 shots and 8 turnovers. That's...not good. I realize Yaya is far and away our best option but at a certain point we have to use some other players.
