It’s gonna be kinda funny if traditional MAC power UMass ends this thing.
Similar to talk on BA last week about former MAC rival Marshall ending this thing.

UMass did play Miami to a 2-pt loss in Oxford last month. I'm sure they'll give them their best shot again next week. But Miami will prevail again.

As an OU alum it’s always disappointing to lose especially to Miami. However as one who enjoys watching good “team” basketball Miami certainly exhibited that tonite and on the other few occasions I’ve caught some of their games this season.

I think Akron might’ve got them tonight. Miami didn’t shoot it well in the first half and Ohio missed free throws. Then ran out of gas. There was an opening, but this is not the team to capitalize on that.

What has Breath contributed today?

I'd rather see Evans get 5-10 minutes instead...
Does it matter if they are both scrubs and should be playing D-2 ball?

Breath 0 points in 12 minutes = really bad.**

Folks, if you think this blows, with 3 senior starters...next year is going to be a much worse bummer. Everybody already knows Boals (other than JJ Kelly) doesn't bring in quality D-1 athletes anymore.

But don't look for a new coach. That might hurt somebody's feelings.

Akron is favored tonight v. UMass (-12.5) more than Miami is favored v. Ohio (-7.5). And not by a little. I find that a bit odd.
Akron wins by 7; Miami by 16.

Miami is very good offensively but I don't think they are good defensively. Ohio was 23-39 on twos (59%).

Being good making twos and giving up threes is not a good strategy to win in college basketball nowadays

I look forward to the game when they walk out and see a 6-10 guard like Nate Ament on the other team or a 270 pound stud post player like Rueben Chinyelu who can't be pushed around. All that "brimming with confidence" stuff will go right in the toilet and ESPN can at that point stop kissing their @55.

Granted Miami is a decent team, but they wouldn’t be undefeated if they had played anybody good. If you want to get a good laugh, check their OOC schedule.

Yeah, no kidding man. But giving up high percentages on twos is not a recipe for a good defense. And if Miami ever runs into a Top 50 team, it will be a problem.

Reminder to myself that I can’t take any game that had to wait for the NBA All-Star Rock N’Jock MVP trophy presentation too much to heart. It was one step away from being pre-empted by Slippery Stairs on the Ocho.

That's nothing new we've been good in the paint all season. I wanna say we were Top 40 in the country at some point in 2pt FG%. Hasn't translated to much for us.

I like Jeff Boals as a person. But as a coach... man, it's no longer working.

Remember when we beat Virginia, and then a year later we were 22-3 at one point? (sigh...) It's time for us all to agree that those were Saul's recruits and that Boals' recruits can't cut it. And he can't coach guys up.

This team is bad and really, really hard to root for. I like Jackson, but that's it.

Dear OU: Please clean house. New coach, new roster. Tear it down to the studs.

Didn't watch the game but listened to the Miami broadcast team.

They heaped love on Jackson all night long! But they also sounded like BA members as they talked about, as they called him the "Little Guy" Shelton.

Breath is either Ivo Baltic 2.0 and has totally quit or if playing his game would struggle to make it on any team in the MAC.

Not enough assists. Put Miami on the line too many times. Not enough steals or blocks and not enough offensive rebounds to have much of a chance.

I’ve never seen a more confident roster of absolutely horrible shooters. I’m so sick of saying this. Under no circumstances known to god should this team shoot a 3. I don’t give a shit if they’re sitting crossed legged in the paint with their backs turned. Two steps closer. Then still don’t shoot it. Just an absolute trash fire. Never in my life seen anything like it outside of my nieces 6th grade team. Even they don’t shoot this many bad shots.

I was 100% team Boals, but his failure to hold them accountable for just being one of the worst shooting teams in the country, but also one of the highest volume shooting teams is so inexcusable. Sheldon is one of the worst basketball players I’ve ever seen at any level. He wouldn’t get off the bench for Pickerington high school. Today. The women’s team.

This team is an affront to bad teams everywhere. And I’m sick to death of watching it. I’m sick to death of this team. I’m sick to death of defending Boals. Because the only excuses I have today are - I like him. He’s a good guy. A good coach. But if he was fired today I would applaud it. If it meant I never had to watch Sheldon play basketball ever again I would put the For Sale signup myself. If I never had to watch the 340th ranked 3 point shooting team shoot 20+ 3’s again I would cry tears of joy. If I never have to watch the FOURTH worst defensive team in 119 seasons of OU basketball I will personally call and beg every assistant in the country to come here.

Talent evaluation and recruiting have been abject failures. This roster is the Island of Misfit Toys. Akron, KSU, Miami and Toledo coaches must laugh their asses off every signing day.

Here is what is hard to understand.

This kid is shooting 48% from three and 97% at the FT line.

He has 31 assists to 20 turnovers.

Why would we not recruit him?

https://www.wsccathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2025-26/bios/we...

There are guys like this all over the place...we're just not getting them.

His juco team is 22-1. Maybe why he doesn't start. He would start right now for half the teams in the MAC though.

Awesome scene inside and outside Millett. There were lines at every entrance around hour before doors open. I knew I had to arrive early to get the seats I like by the visitor locker room tunnel. It was halfway to Who concert at doors as Miami students really bum-rushed to get in. I've seen video of Allen Fieldhouse on gameday, which I think is first come first served seating for students, where they are running to their seats. That's what it was last night. The only time I've seen anything like it at a MAC game was Gary Trent day.

The place really showed out with Dewine in the front row and lots of Miami 'pubs coming over to kiss the ring. Devin Davis double fisting Nutrls. It seemed as though every GA section was at least 75% students. I don't know how they determine the matrix between free student tickets vs general public sales, but combine that with free parking and I think Miami is missing out on a ton of money with these big crowds.

My main takeaway was that there seemed to always be a mismatch in Miami's favor. I said beforehand that guarding Suder and Elmer would be bleak. We put Kelly on Suder to start but that led to some weird matchups and switches, like Sheldon on Elmer or Pav on Byers. This is a game where you really feel the loss of AJ Brown, and not that he is a defensive dynamo but I think he can counterbalance Suder's scoring with his own scoring. If Miami makes it to the tournament, their ability to play Suder and Elmer at the 2 and 3 instead of the 3 and 4 will be huge for playing against a power conference team.

Pav is the only player on this team that can raise his game to this level environment and pressure. Not enough from Simmons and Hadaway. Not one Ohio player had more than four rebounds. Byers shooting 16 free throw makes me sad for what Hadaway should have become in his senior year.

I'm not in full roster upheaval mode. We lose five guys anyway at least. Simmons ultimately is a positive on the roster. Kelly, Kuany, and Burris could become some great pieces in time. Burris' shoots with great confidence from the arc and mid range. He reminds me of Scott Thomas at BG like a decade+ ago. Guy always seemed to have a great game against us. Kuany's length and athleticism alone account for some scoring on their own but his defense has a way's to go. Three defensive blunders I can remember last night. Elliott gets a pass for his health, as does Mosley. Who knows with Fisher but we should make that offer every time. If Evans can't make a commitment to get up to like 230 pounds, I don't need him.

Love your optimism, but there is Kelly and then what? Everyone else is either a giant question mark or they will have to make a gigantic leap in improvement in the next seven months. The names listed here won’t lead Ohio to a top 7 finish in the conference.

And I would be stunned if Simmons is back in Athens next season. Stunned.

And Kelly is going to have his chance to move onto bigger and better.

I'm saying I want Simmons back. Kuany and Burris can stay and it's not fair to them to expect Kelly level production when they are freshman and sometimes play like freshmen. A redshirt freshman in the rotation or a true freshman out of the rotation are, I think, too soon to tell.

Miami's men's team takes its undefeated record into UMass Tuesday night. Miami's women's team suffered its first MAC loss today at . . . . you got it, UMass. Just saying - I actually don't see Miami losing until Saturday of the MAC tourney.
