The beauty of having athletes and depth:
Arguably Miami's best player is Evan Ipsaro. The junior point guard averaged 14 pts through the team's first 12 games before being lost for the season with an injury. In steps sophomore PG Luke Skaljac and Miami doesn't miss a beat with Skaljac possibly earning some All-MAC consideration. A wrist injury sidelines Skaljac for tonight's game at WMU and in steps freshman PG Trey Perry. All he does is extend Miami's win streak to 29 games with a iso drive down the lane for an off-hand layup at the buzzer for the 2-pt win. The frosh finished with 14 pts, 3 assists and 2 steals. All of this doesn't even mention how Ipsaro's injury also forced Steele to take the redshirt off of freshman Justin Kirby, who didn't play in the first 13 games, but is now a key contributor off the bench with an average of 7 p/g.
Then there's the MAC's other top team, Akron. The visiting Zips led Kent by 10 at the half tonight while getting 31 first-half points from its bench. This was in addition to the 10 points from PG Tavari Johnson, leading candidate for MAC POY with a MAC-best 20.6 p/g. I wouldn't be surprised if there have been 3 or 4 consecutive games this season where Ohio's bench hasn't scored 31 total pts, what Akron did in one half tonight.
