I just checked ESPN’s bracketology. They have Miami on the 11 line. I guess that tells you all you need to know about how much they respect Miami. I’d think a team ranked nearly top 20 nationally would be more in line for a 5-6 seed, at worst. 11 seems like a slap in the face. Maybe not a Power Slap slap in the face, but at least one of those backhand-with-a-glove slaps in the face.

More like how they respect the MAC. Gonzaga when they started their runs didn’t get any respect either. And no I’m not comparing programs, but I am comparing seasons.

Heard tonight at the game from a reliable source that contrary to what's been posted here and elsewhere on the interwebs that Miami has a gob of NIL money. He said there are one or two big donors. This type of information won't be kept secret forever. Eventually we will know if this is true or not.

Why is ESPN showing the OU vs Miami game on Friday 3/6 is starting at 2PM? Ohio bobcats.com shows 7pm?

anybody wondering what schools are thinking about making an offer to travis steel? he ,herb sendek and charlie coles have been the best miami coaches. i believe sendek had the best recruits though. guys like wally szerbiac ,devon davis, damon frierson, and jamie mahaffey prove that. how soon would wally have hit the portal if it existed.same with mahaffey cross and frierson. at this point i feel miami has done enough to deserve an at large bid. but you know those selection makers . miami will probably be denied an at large if they lose a game in conference tourney
The last computer model brackets I saw yesterday had Akron in as I think as 12 and no fiami. Not even a play-in game 30 miles from them. Even though their chicken-hawk out of conference schedule does sort of make them the naked emperor's new clothes of college ball, ESPN has this sudden raging arousal for them and would put heat on the NCAA to at least give them a virtual home game in Dayton you might think.

Sort of reminds me of several years ago when Davidson (I think it was the Curry days) was undefeated in conference play. They were either 16-0 or 18-0 in their conference. The Bracketology before their conference tournament started showed them on the bubble. I mean if you aren't somewhat of a lock to make the tourney with an undefeated conference record, why are we playing conference games? It's the reality of the state of college basketball, and has been for years, that small conference teams get almost zero respect.

As much as I dislike Miami, if they go undefeated through conference play and lose to Akron in the MAC final in Cleveland, they had better be getting a spot in the dance. I'm sure a .500 SEC/Big 10/ACC team would get in over them, though.

I'm struggling to remember without looking, but wasn't Buffalo in their big season under Oates a much higher seed? Did they get up to the 6 or 7 line?

I looked it up. Buffalo was a 6 seed in 2019. 31-3 overall record. Of course, they played a significantly tougher non-con schedule that year than Miami played this year, but they still managed a 6 seed out of the MAC.

We had previously said Miami could probably afford to stumble in 1 game and still get in with a championship loss. I am not so sure that is true. But I do think if the championship is their first loss, they will get in. If they kept them out in that scenario that would be bonkers...but at the same time it would not shock me.

FWIW at halftime of the OU-Miami game they had on some CBB insider (can't remember which one) who said they couldn't see Miami being left out with an undefeated regular season. With 1 loss + tournament loss, they thought it would be a real debate.

I wouldn't put anything past this committee.

Best teams who did not win their conference who have been left out of the tournament recently.

2023-24 Indiana State: 28-6 with an NET ranking of 29 (!)

2017-18 St Mary's: 28-5 and spent a lot of the season ranked in the Top 25

2015-16 Monmouth: 28-8 and had wins over UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, Georgetown and Rutgers

2015-16 St Mary's: 27-5 and swept Gonzaga in the regular season

2014-15 Colorado State: 27-6 and spent time in the Top 25

2011-12 Drexel: 27-6 with a 19-game win streak and lost by 3 in the CAA final

2012-13 Weber State: 26-6 and got snubbed by both the NCAA and NIT

2003-04 Utah State: 25-3 with an RPI of 35 and ranked in the Top 25 at the end of the season

2001-02 Butler: 25-5 with wins over Washington, Purdue, Indiana and 3-0 against the MVC.

IMO Miami is a perfect case study for a team being left out on a technicality simply because nobody wanted to schedule against them.

Great list of NCAA screw overs. There was also one year, and I can't remember even which decade it was in (but it was this century), where a MAC at-large candidate was screwed over and another at-large team was let in when the MAC team had actually beaten that other team in its non-conference schedule.

I am taking nothing away from Miami....26-0 is 26-0....but Akron...Kent....and Ohio all found a way to play top 25 schools this season. I find it hard to believe Steele couldn't play at least one pre-season top-25 team on the road this season. Or hell....even a top 50 team.

I think a P4/5 will back up the Brinks truck at a level MAC money can't touch. He has been a coach in the Big East and I have to think he wants back at that P5 level.

I also hope that they crash back to earth next year and round back into their 3K fan turnout. They are enjoying a special season but I don't see it becoming a sustained thing. I can also see their roster being raided for a better NIL payday.

This squares with what I was told by an insider a few days ago that Miami has found a load of cash somewhere for its athletic programs. I have no idea where they found this alleged goldmine. My speculation: Maybe sucking all these years at such an intense level actually pulled pirate gold from the bottom of the Caribbean right into the Miami president's office in Oxford. Obviously the president's office would be the vortex of this black hole of suckidom.

I don't understand BA posters wanting Miami to fail. The topic reminds of the idiom about a rising tide lifting all boats.

Granted, I enjoy watching Ohio beat up on the Redhawks (and Redskins in previous years) as much as any Bobcat fan. But Miami, or any MAC school, getting the attention they're getting can only be good for the MAC at large. Not only is Miami playing in front of large crowds at Millett, but also in road games at Toledo, Kent, Marshall and UMass. And hopefully OUr Bobcats will be playing in front of its largest home crowd of the season when Miami visits 2 weeks from tonight. And I'll be there, rooting for Ohio to give Miami its first loss of the season.

Could not agree more! [I've found myself agree with you way too much recently.]

Just saw this delusional statement on the X from a Miami fan:

"We’re about to become the next Gonzaga! ITS HAPPENING! OXFORD, OHIO WILL BE A DESTINATION IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL!"

Now, if that were to happen, I'd be happy about it, but I'd want OHIO to be the next Saint Louis Billikens and beat their asses every time we played them.

Sorry, enemy of all enemies. No different than Mich-OSU, Bama-AU, SC-UCLA. Unless them winning helps OU advance/get a higher seed, never want them to win or succeed. I with nothing but the worst for that school, fan base, community, whatever.

The job will just become that much more appealing with the resources in place; whether or not he chooses to leave. Miami will consistently be a 20+ win team unless it absolutely botches a Steele replacement if it even comes down to that.
