OCF, you mean those ones from Florida? Ha ha ha!
The best basketball athlete we ever had was from Connecticut! That will bring an argument from some quarters, where history starts with me. (ha-ha!).
Our best basketball athlete ever was from Ohio - Gary Trent!
Not!
I have seen every team since Walter Luckett, never got to see him play, but Yes, Gary Trent is the best basketball athlete ever to play at Ohio, hands down.
3 time MAC Player of the Year. Leading scorer at Ohio per game (3rd in scoring and rebounding overall, in only 3 years)
Trent was damn good, but "best" is a subjective judgement. See my post about Baumholtz. Also, all of the players on OHIO's only Elite 8 team were very good athletes. If you'd seen Don Hilt dunk you might not be quite so awestuck with those of Trent. I'm taking nothing away from Trent. He was very, very good, but when like on the Elite 8 team every player is excellent, you spread the honors around and don't have the individual stats that a super player on a team with others of less talent can rack up. Trent is certainly on the list of all-time OHIO greats, no doubt about that, but you need a little context when deciding on the greatest of all time.
