On that note, not counting Trent, been a long time since we’ve seen some real high flyers and thunderous dunks. I
I was wondering when the fun police was going to show up.

Not true.

Guys that could throw down since Trent:
Curtis Simmons
Sanjay Adell
Brandon Hunter
Devaughn Washington
Patrick Flomo
Jerome Tillman
Jason Carter
I'll even throw Hadaway on there.

Who's got others?

This comment annoys me probably way more than it should. Our dumb modern culture just can't let us have fun with something without the "WELL ACTUALLY..." angle coming in.

Just want to reiterate my appreciation for your entertaining logging of Bobcat dunks over the years Shab and look forward to the recaps and ongoing tallies.

Let me clarify. I love dunks. I applaud the recording of dunks. It's just that when push comes to shove, I'd rather have winners than dunkers. If we can have both that's great. I was simply expressing that I agreed with BTC on the priority.

Yeah and Simmons, Adell, FlomoTillman were a long time ago, even Washington was well over a decade ago. Real stretch with Carter. But literally half your list was on the team with Trent or came in right after him.

The pbp on ESPN calls this a tip shot. I had to miss the last 10 minutes of the game so I didn't see this. Just happened to see the tweet just now.

Credit to social media person who has to tweet with ATTITUDE when we are down double digits.

The Hadaway dunk was pretty much a clone of the one he did at Louisville. We have a good collection of contested dunks in this early season.

Season totals:
Hadaway: 8
Kuany: 6 (2 unofficial)
Simmons 4
Kelly: 2
Evans: 1

Team: 21 (2 unofficial)

We're on pace for around 60 as long as our main guys here stay healthy. That would be well above an average season and we have two games against non-D1s that may provide a boost. Sometimes we are lucky to get to 30 dunks.

Wow what a play by Hadaway...strip steal, down the court thru traffic and finish with a hyped momentum dunk. Plays like that are invaluable.

vs Ohio Wesleyan

An eight dunk game, our first in my 22 years of following Ohio University basketball.

-Hadaway two hander cutting in the lane * https://x.com/OhioMBasketball/status/2001087309651849476
-Evans two hand jam at the end of a transition ** https://x.com/OhioMBasketball/status/2001088395095724478
-JJ Kelly acrobatic alley oop ***
-Kuany handoff underneath ** https://x.com/OhioMBasketball/status/2001100082607788499
-Hadaway BLOB lefty hammer **
-Kuany alley oop **
-Kuany on a long feed underneath ** https://x.com/OhioMBasketball/status/2001103707023253684
-Simmons in transition **

Those not individually highlighted are all still here https://x.com/OhioMBasketball/status/2001106682345046522

The ESPN play by play was weird. Several of our actual dunks were called layups. Some missed layups were called dunk attempts. It even said Pavaletzke attempted a dunk but it was just a missed floater. We missed three other dunk attempts. Two alley oops for Kelly and Hadaway were mistimed. Then it was a rough sequence for Hadaway: a missed windmill on the break, then a badly missed short jumper off the glass, then a tech on his dunk. I docked him a * on that one because it was thrown down with good authority but the tech spoiled the mood. Boals should have benched him for the missed windmill, but he waited a little while longer until the timeout after the technical and chewed his ass all the way out.

Season totals:
Hadaway: 10
Kuany: 9 (2 unofficial)
Simmons: 5
Kelly: 3
Evans: 2

Team: 29 (2 unofficial)

Excellent recap, it was clear from the get-go that Hadaway & Kelly desperately wanted a highlight reel oop.

Totally off-topic but does anyone know how the ESPN and similar sites play by play works, where it comes from? Does the Athletic Department supply an official scorer that uses a standardized software? Is it a team of 2 or 3 people covering different aspects. I would enjoy that job in the empty nester years as I'm an avid scoring dork.

This has quickly become my favorite thread to check out after each game. Well done Shab. The Boals chew out of Captain Chaos was legendary.

I don't know how one person could do it alone. I did score book for my brother's rec teams when my dad was coaching. Occasionally he would want me to keep an eye on rebounds or turnovers. Anything beyond scoring, fouls, and timeouts takes your eyes off of the floor and you're bound to miss a lot.

Elliott must not be dunking this year because passed on a fast break with no one ahead of him. Maybe he got spooked by the sprinting footsteps behind him. He made up for it with an outright denial of their try at a slam. https://x.com/OhioMBasketball/status/2006117973065400684 Pass slightly off the mark for a beyond center court alley to Kelly.

I think it's awesome that in less than a month of basketball, JJ Kelly went from not being on this list to halfway up. He could be leading with the most dunks by year's end.

I think Kuany has the record in my time as a fan for most dunks by a freshman and Kelly is on pace to break the previous record too. I don't know what it is but my gut says Reggie Keely or Tyquane Goard. Jason Carter dark horse. It isn't Devaughn, who had only four in his freshman year.
