"our teams are fighting, and we are bound to win the fray...." me thinks the ladies are taking the fight song too seriously! Video posted on youtube of the pugilists in the CMU-Ohio game last night.

My dad refs high school ball and I have a cousin who played D1 women's ball...there is a lot more jersey grabbing, secret elbowing, etc. in the women's game than men's.

Hard to tell who really started it...anybody know?  Looks like it was going into a time out.

Wow, not good. Certainly don't see that in the women's game too often.

Not exactly the the best way to get press.   I wonder which game was uglier last night, the men or women?

She's done this year.  I hope we hire a coach who knows Ohio (the state of) basketball.  Recruit Columbus, grab the occasional southern ohio kid, and for the love of god go back to double headers,   I know the latter wont happen.  But how do you expect any casual fan to show up when they have Mens basketball and local HS basketball.  OU women's will be a local middle school game (for entertainment).  This isn't marquee ball.

I sure hope so. Nothing against her personally, but this team is headed in the absolute wrong direction. I used to go to a few games a year, but lately I have made less and less. Any interest there was in the program after Sylvia Crawley left has quickly been eroded.

I agree doubleheaders are the way to go. Very few people will go out of their way to attend a women's basketball game...unfortunate, but true.

Years ago, the coaches voted to go different nights.  The belief was the game could stand on its own.  I'm not going there but that is the history of the situation.

As for the next coach, there is a very easy choice.  Katie Smith.  If you're scratching your head and wondering who, then you don't know a thing about basketball.  This would put OU basketball on another level.  Heck, I'd volunteer to shag balls in practice if she were hired.  Other than Arnold Grimes at Akron East (track star and triple jumper), she is the best athlete I've ever personally seen up close.

Katie would be a great choice...we would instantly become relevant in Women's Basketball. That really would be a can't-miss hire.

As far as the doubleheaders, I think the attendance at the vast majority of schools proves that the game CANNOT stand on its own. The coaches need to put aside pride and think about what's best for helping to expand the game and provide a quality experience for players.

Isn't Katie still in the WNBA?  That would be a great hire if she was willing.

If the women ever want to play in front of more than 100 people again, they will consider some regular conference double headers like they did in the 90's.

My guess is that her goal is to make one more Olympic team and that's it.  That would give her 4 gold medals.  Regardless, OU would take her 3 medals and get on down the road.  I first saw Katie when she was in 8th grade when I was coaching track at Athens High.  The Logan High School coach said, "I've got one coming" and took me over to see her perform.  She ran the 100, the hurdles, threw the shot and discus and I was blown away.  If you google her, what it doesn't say is that she was first team all state in volleyball as well as basketball and won the shot and the discuss at the state meet.  Enough said.

Meanwhile, Lynn Bria's Stetson Hatters are killing it this year:

Maybe Bria is a better coach now because she doesn't have to worry about arranging dates for her boss.

Reading the CMU board there is a nice long thread about the "conspiracy" of the MAC offices in favor of Ohio because they had three players suspended and we only had one.  I thought it was kind of funny after our thread complaining about the conspiracy against Ohio by the MAC offices.

Or that someone would spend time setting up a conspiracy for MAC women's basketball.....
