Akron opens up with a solid birdie-birdie opening.

And Fiami almost pulled even but lost it in the final minute.  BG was up on Akron until the last few seconds but let Akron slip by.

-2 thru 2 in the East is an absolute dream.  That is a massively important start for Akron.  It is going to take a couple surprises (like a loss this Saturday?) to bring them back to the pack.

Big start for them for sure, but both road wins did come against what should be the bottom two in the East.  Now, if they pick up roadies at Kent and in Athens, then we're in trouble.

Several big games tonight

Kent State
@Ohio -5

Akron
@Buffalo -2.5

BGSU
@Fiami -3.5

Ball State
@CMU -1

WMU
@EMU +4.5

NIU
@Toledo -9

Not sure I'm laying 9 points on Toledo against anybody right now.  And Vegas apparently sees EMU as a 240 yard par 4 with no water.

I watched the end of their game against Western last night.  That was some ugly, ugly basketball.

Big win by Akron on the road against the Cards. I think I see a few errors in your standings. Check if these should be:

BGSU +1
Fiami +2

EMU -1
CMU E

As this type of standing indicates, Akron is in great position right now. The Zips already have won three road games in four tries and have taken care of business in two home games against top MAC East foes.

With the win at Ball state, there is no reason the Zips should not be able to sweep the West. Then three of the last five against the East are at home (including Miami and BG in the first two). The pressure is on the challengers (Ohio, Buffalo, Kent State) to win out against the West, win out at home and steal a road win or two.

The good news is that Ohio has a lot of chances to move up in these standings.  The bad news is that Ohio has a lot of chances to move up in these standings.

We haven't had nearly the chances either.  The number in the parenthesis is important here.  Tonight is a very important birdie putt, though.
