Jay Bilas ranks Ohio as the 64th best team in the country and names D.J. Cooper one of the players of the week for his triple-double against Portland. Northern Iowa comes in at No. 38. Marshall is ranked 39th. Kent State is 55th.

Too low.  Especially if he thinks that highly of Marshall.

I think the ranking is fair.

We're talking the 3rd week of December...not about to get caught up in being ranked "only" 64 by someone who doesn't get a say in the selection committee room.

I also would hazard to guess that we're a lot further away from where Jay would have us at the beginning of the season compared to Marshall.

Winning games makes any unofficial ranking irrelevant anyway.

All very true.  I just find it hard to take Marshall 25 spaces above our team seriously, given that we lead Louisville late before falling just short, and Marshall never led against Syracuse, but did make it close.  Call that a wash and you're left with similar schedules and results except oh yeah webeatthemontheirownfloor kthxbai.

Just keep winning, and we'll get where we want to be in the end.  UNI!

Jay Bilas doesn't have any respect for the MAC.  So, ranking us 64th is pretty impressive.

Bilas is an ego-maniac DB. He thinks he's in touch with hoops because he played for Duke  blah, blah, blag. Getting any of those old goats to give us props (Digger, Knight, Raftery, etc.) is next to impossible and who cares what they think anyway. They are too busy trying to get Smith, Boeheim and Krzyzewski on their shows every damn week to care about the rest of college hoops. We are 30+ spots better than his clown town 64 ranking. As I said before, this team is much better than many are expecting. Watch out!

He doesn't respect anything if it's not one of the money conferences.  In fact, most of the time he does't pay attention to anything outside the all-time elite programs (Duke, UNC, UConn, Cuse, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana).

All true, yet he's still more informed than the PD's MAC beat writer, Elton Alexander.

I don't agree with Bilas, but at least I know he's making his judgments from a position of knowledge. It's a matter of interpretation. Mr. Alexander, I believe, simply wants to piss off OU fans.

I agree but he's so jaded that his conclusions are worthless.  He's a complete shill for the money teams.

So winning at Northern Iowa in a blowout raises the Bobcats three spots:
http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/7384166/college-hoops-top-68-rankings-vanderbilt-commodores-drop-bilas-index

Northern Iowa drops five spots with its loss to Ohio, keeping it 18 spots ahead of the Bobcats. Marshall also comes in the same spot, No. 39, and Kent State drops two spots to 57.

When you put it that way, these rankings just look silly.

I know he said in last week's rankings that an upset doesn't necessarily make a bad team good or vice-verca, but we deserve a little bit more respect than that. That logic could possibly hold up in our 2-point win at Marshall, but definitely not the blowout at UNI. In all seriousness, I'm done worrying about rankings. Being ranked in January means diddly if the team doesn't prepare for a good March.

Bilas is getting more and more like Billy Packer.  He just doesn't believe anyone outside the BCS conferences and a few A-10 teams belong in division I.  He needs to be careful or he'll replace Packer as the most hated announcer.

This newest ranking just shows how little he is paying attention to the mids.  Teams we have no business being behind:

Marshall
Northern Iowa
Belmont
Kent State
Dayton
Cincinnati

There are some others as well but the above are obvious.

He has us #66. Says we keep winning, but against teams outside the top 100.  He's actually copy and pasted the exact same two sentences about us the past 3 weeks.

I think that was our actual game plan last 3 weeks. "Ugly/Win" - "Copy/Paste"....
