I was going to share this article, too.  Read it if for no other reason than to see the Butler estimate of the value of their NCAA run.  It's staggering.  The entire article is cool but your eyes will pop at the $$$$.  Puts our sniping at the MAC TV package in some perspective.

On a related note, Forbes magazine has posted a link to video of the last 5 or minutes of the real "Hoosier" game.  Milan vs. Muncie Central.  It made me long for the Four Corners days.  Check it out, too.  Some great interviews included.

That is a very good piece. It is most interesting that they have done away with their long standing 6 a.m. practice time thanks to a sleep specialist. I was unaware that the Horizon is a plane league rather than riding busses. Having made those treks to Door County, Milwaukee and Chicago to and from Northern and Northeastern Ohio I can say that those are pretty hard drives in mid winter weather.

The most telling line in there is fairly well hidden and lightly discussed.

"Meanwhile, this year’s team ranks last in the Horizon League, and 337th out of 344 Division I teams, in 3-point accuracy (27.7 percent). "

I am not sure where our Bobcats rank, but for Butler, a team that has lived on tough defense and the three point presence, I would highly suspect were that us, the fan boards would be melting down.

Through Sunday, the Cats are 206th of 338 in 3-pters at 33.2%.  Interestingly, they're 21st in the nation in defending 3-pters: 29.3%.

Some other interesting stats show the defensive success -- 5th in the nation in turnover margin (+5.2); 9th in steals per game (9.0) -- and the offensive woes -- 230th in FG% (42.3%) and 229th in FT% (67.1).

They say that Butler's applications are up 42% since their 2 NCAA Championships appearances.

Ohio's applications this year are up approx. 33%.

I would posit several reasons for our increase, besides winning the FIPB, and being on ESPN the last 6 football games.

    Football Black Jerseys
    Rufus vs. Brutus

If these are the reasons that OUr applications are up this year, the adage, "any news is good news", would definitely hold true!

Regarding the comment about the Horizon being a "plane league", you have to remember that they don't play Div 1 football, and some don't play any football. Butler has the advantage of being in a large market and can parlay their success via the media and increased opportunities for attendance. That's how they can pay Brad Stevenson around 1M. We're in a vacuum in Athens and maybe some good press trickles into the Columbus media once in a while, but not like Butler in Indianapolis.
