Lost 59-41 last night at Valpo.

Blame it on Gary Waters.

Worse. That was a home game for CSU.

Really Jeff?  You're equating CSU's loss to an 18-8/11-3 Valpo team with our loss to Toledo?  Weak.

Either you are also being sarcastic, or you missed my sarcasm.

How about you compare losing to Toledo with Hofstra?

I took this thread to be parody -- light-hearted and  designed to make people laugh. To me, that's something like The Onion.

Sarcasm, in my opinion, is more along the lines of Bill Maher or for the old timers, Don Rickles. It takes skill and intellect, but it's not my cup of tea.

Cleveland State is a very solid team, with a decent resume. Their 2nd loss to a good Valpo team speaks to how challenging it is when the conference schedule rolls around. This is also what Murray State learned vs. a Tennessee State team that is playing pretty well right now. I'm sure the scouting is much more thorough for these games and the personnel/coaches know each other very well. The teams that are best up to the challenge and have the fewest speed bumps end up at the top of the league. I hope we are one of those teams down the stretch.

BTW -- I think the #1 ranked Valpo women's bowlers may be the worst 62-28 team in the nation. They  finished 7th at the Prairie View A&M Invitational last weekend. The Crusaders are off the next couple of weeks and I'm sure they're working hard to get ready for upcoming tournaments. I met some of these student/athletes at MDW on the way back from our game vs. NIU. I popped over to the Valpo website to see how they did in Texas.

Go, Ohio!

Joe, good point about the distinction between parody and sarcasm.  Parody is the best word for this.

Cleveland St. is a fine basketball team that had an off night.  They would be a top team in the MAC this year.

I catch the Gary Waters Show sometimes and it's always fun.  I think he's a very good coach.

I'm getting tired of people say so and so is the worst (insert record) team in the country.  I believe whom ever is 0-20 or whatever is the worst team in the country.  Don't get me wrong I understand what you are saying but everyone is beatable at anytime.  I am glad we are 19-5 which means we have a tremendous chance of being a 20 win season which hasn't happen for a long time.

Sure I am upset with the loss to Toledo but it was at Toledo and I kept saying how scary that game would be.  But, we will bounce back, I am sure of it.  No, I am positive of it.

I should probably clarify that while I understood the humor in Jeff's initial post, this was still an especially painful loss for CSU. Great record, but with that loss they really shot themselves in the foot in regards to the possibility of hosting the Horizon League semis and final.

It's kinda sad how CSU has flown under the radar locally despite being a vastly improved program in recent years. They haven't drawn well - Waters even noted that his team might have been tight last night because of the big crowd of a whopping *4,521* - and on the occasions where they HAVE filled some seats at home (last night vs. Valpo, last year vs. Butler in the game that started their big run), they haven't delivered.

We have actually had 20 win seasons recently, just not before the conference tournament.  I'm sure that's what you meant though.

Yeah, I meant the regular season OU_Country.  Yeah, it will be great riding into Cleveland with 20+ wins this year.

Wait a minute, Jeff.  So now you ARE saying that CSU had an "off" night in losing to the now-#1 team in the Horizon league? Still seems like you're trying to draw parallels to our "off" night in Toledo.  And my point is that the situations are about as far from analogous as they could be.  Was it sarcasm? Parody?  What game are you playing exactly?

It can easily be argued that the Cleveland State loss was equally as bad or even worse.  Cleveland State has been acclaimed as the best team in that league and they were blown out at home while putting up a putrid 41 points.  Ohio lost on the road in a very competitive game that came down to the final seconds.  I know the actual result compared to the point spread going in was worse for Cleveland State.

I disagree.   Valpo was #2 in the league at the time (11-3), now #1.  Toledo not so much.

Cleve St. RPI 58/Valpo 103

Ohio 89/Toledo 265

And it could be easily argued that the manner in which we lost (see 15-0 lead) makes the outcome so much worse, pointing a stronger finger of blame at our coaching staff.  CSU came out and was just flat-out bad against a fairly evenly matched team.  We collapsed (no other word for it) against a team with a 265 RPI.

Jeff and I can agree on one point: Waters is a hell of a coach.  I wish we had him.

SBH, I'm not sure I can really analyze where you're going with this.  I wasn't even thinking about our loss to Toledo or making a comparison.  You're giving me way too much credit, because there wasn't that much depth to my post.  I made a weak attempt at humor.  My point was that Cleveland St. is a good team and just because they played badly last night doesn't change that.

A dramatic reconstruction of SBH questioning Jeff McKinney, with Raymond Burr playing SBH.

SBH: "Where's your diabolical scheming leading, McKinney? WHAT'S YOUR ANGLE!?! YOU WERE THE ONE WHO SET THIS WHOLE THREAD UP AND THOUGHT NO ONE WOULD QUESTION YOUR SENSE OF PARODY AS A WAY OF QUESTIONNING GARY WATERS! DIDN'T YOU? DIDN'T YOU!!!"

OCF has rebuked me before for my clumsy, poorly constructed sarcasms.  I just need to be nice all the time.

I LOVE the Perry Mason thing! I always watched that show when it was on. Paul Drake had a pretty sweet 1959 Ford Fairlane hardtop convertible and I'm pretty sure he was banging Della Street.
