Hunter... Esterkamp... Flomo... Dominating in the Dean Dome.

Can't believe it's already been 10 years.

Ah the memories.  B-Hunt is still my #1 as a Bobcat fan (1999 on).  I know Flomo & Esty are still having great success overseas...Is Hunter playing anywhere?

Got to meet Roy Williams at Pinehurst GC a year ago at a golf tourney there.  As he was signing his book, I cajoled him to schedule the Bobcats so he could have a shot at getting above .500 vs Ohio...

Notice how the Big 6 schools never schedule us again after we beat them on their home floor?  Won at O$U and UVA in the pre-season NIT in '94; at 'Cuse in the first round of the Carrier Classic; at UNC.  Haven't seen them since.

I remember that trip well.  Got to play golf on Duke's course the day of the game and UNC's the next day.  What a trip.  Looking at our lineup then, any thoughts on who would prevail in a match-up with this year's Bobcat squad?

Unreal it's been ten years, still remember watching that in my dorm with my buddies (O'Bleness 4th Floor baby!).  Proudest night as a Bobcat up to that point.  Saw Thomas Stephens walking on campus the next day, gave him the thumbs up.  An awesome night for sure!

That team would crush this year's squad 8 out of 10 times, and win by less than 10 the other 2.

This year's team would have absolutely no answer for BHunt.  He would score 35.  And Keely/Baltic would be lukcy to score 10 points combined against Flomo in the paint.

To this day, that was the most talented team I have seen wear the green and white.  Seeing as the couldn't win the MAC regular season or tourney, it also goes down as my most underachieving team as well.  Great memories of that squad though.

So you don't think that team might underachieve in this theoretical match-up also?

That UNC team was horrible.  To me, that was a nice Bobcat victory but pales in comparison to such as beating Beefs in the title game a few years ago and the NCAA win over Georgetown.

I don't know the 'Cats record in the year that we beat UNC but I don't think we had that great of a team that year.  I don't think we even went that far in the MAC playoffs.

A good Ohio win, I agree.  But as others have said, it wasn't all that impressive except for the name on the jerseys of the opponent.  Georgetown was much bigger.  But, I'm still waiting for an Ohio team to top the 85-69 victory over Kentucky in the NCAA Sweet 16 round in my sophomore year.  I think we may be a year or two away from that, but I do like the direction this Ohio team is taking.  We are a very young squad this year, and we will get much better as we mature.  Go OHIO!

We're starting three academic juniors and an academic senior. The first man off the bench is a junior. Keely, Baltic, and Cooper have played in every single game for almost three seasons now. I don't see how we're very young.

I believe this was the same year as "CMU Gate" where we gave a lackluster effort and lost to a very weak Central Michigan team in Round 1 at the Convo .  As I recall we were the highest seeded "non-bye" team, or 4th best in the MAC Tourney?

Some felt Brandon Hunter threw the game......at least as I recall the banter on this board.

I too have fond memories of that UNC game.  Remember distinctly watching it in my Johnson Hall dorm.

OK, maybe not VERY young, but it is a young team.  Other than Belton, we've got no seniors, and lots of underclassmen seeing plenty of playing time -- including two Freshmen --Taylor and Goard and four sophomores -- Kellogg, Johnson, Hall and Smith. To me that's a young team.  Some of the newcomers seem to me to have great potential.  I'm particularly high on Taylor and Kellogg, but the whole bunch of underclassmen are a very special group of young men.  Slick Rick has really shown a new level to his game recently.  I'll stand by my general assertion that this is a young team that will get better in the next two years.  While I'm not discounting the possibility of a run this year, I think 2012-13 will really be the high water mark of the Groce Era.  If we could only find a dominating big man I think we'd have real top 20 prospects.
