Akron might have the East title all but sewn up but the Cats still have a great shot at a bye to the semis.  The two teams they play this week -- Buffalo and Kent -- are tied for the #2 spot, just a game ahead of the Cats.  Sweeping them would give the Cats the upper hand: they'd be tied for #2 and have the tiebreaker on both of them.  If the Cats win out their last four games, they get the #2 seed in the MAC tourney.  The two road games this week are huge.

I agree...Except there are not 2 Road games this week.  Akron is at home next weekend before we head to Kent next Wednesday.

I'm sorry if I am a pessimist, but since we have only beat NIU on the Road and lost to 2 not so great teams...I am looking at the Akron at home and at Miami games as crucial for a top 4 seed.  I won't let the solid play in the Convo this week give me false hope to see some road kills coming up.  I know we have what it takes to win at Buffalo and Kent...but right now I am just hoping we are able to beat Miami and protect home court against Akron.

These are the tie-breakers from last year (no longer posted on the website, which makes me wonder if they have changed)....

TIE-BREAKER PROCEDURE
A. Head-to-head competition
B. Division Record (10 games)
C. Winning percentage* vs. ranked conference teams
(top to bottom, regardless of division, vs. common opponents regardless of the number of times played)
D. Coin flip

*Winning percentage is used instead of record because of situations where teams do not play each other the same number of times. Therefore, a team that is 1-0 (1.000) would win the tiebreaker over a team that is 1-1 (.500).

For multiple team ties:
1. Total won-lost record of games played among the tied teams
2. Two-team tie-breaker procedure goes into effect (refer to A).

NOTE: Once a three-team tie has been reduced to two teams, the two-team tiebreaker will go into effect.

Ball State, CMU, and NIU are eliminated from bye-eligibility. If we win just one more game out of the last four, Miami and Toledo will be eliminated as well. Those two will also be eliminated with one loss. Two Bobcat wins will eliminate WMU.

A major thing Ohio has going for it is that it would have the tiebreaker against BG. Obviously, the teams split, so the second tiebreaker of division record would go to the Bobcats Ohio currently is 4-2 in the division while BG is 2-4.

If Eastern Michigan ties Ohio, of course the Eagles get the bye via their head-to-head win. If there happens to be a three-way tie between the teams, Eastern Michigan still would get the tie because it beat both Ohio and BG.

A win by the Bobcats on Wednesday would make it hard for them not to get a bye. The Falcons play at Akron.

That Eastern loss looms big right now.

For sure. Ohio was fortunate Eastern lost to Central the next game. The Eagles still have to make up two games, but then again, they've got a lot easier schedule to close (home vs. NIU and Ball State and then at WMU and Toledo).
