I know we won't keep coach Groce for too much longer, but I'm worried this could be a spot soon.  I thought he'd probably for sure stay through Walt, DJ and Ivo's class but Illinois would be impossible to pass up. Their AD has MAC ties as well.

If Stevens and Shaka both so NO to Illinois, you think Groce will be on their short list?

Here's his press conference from last night.  Weber is done and I'm not sure he'll coach another game:

I don't think a job like Illinois is realistic at this point.

However, as we saw with Geno Ford's move, the better MAC coaches can get 50%-100% salary raises just going to other mid-major shools.

That's the bigger concern for me.  Groce leaving for someplace like Bradley.

Dakich hinted at this several weeks ago.

Big 10 would be a good fit. Intersting to see if he would go back to Butler ....or if Brandon Miller would be persuaded to head that way.

Saw a good tweet the other day from Dave Telep, recruiting Guru

In the next few months, coaches will get new jobs. Most important thing is to select proper staff. Without a good staff, treading water

During the last tOSU game the announcers were talking about how Wichita State's coach might be in very high demand and Illinois would be one of the premier jobs more than likely open.

Shockernet.net is without a doubt the most bipolar fan board I consistently read. That comment may increase Lithium sales in Wichita hugely. Seems like they are becoming a stepping stone for coaches.

5 is the number on the napkin.

I love Coach Groce and think he could do well at a big program...I also think he could impress in interviews for bigger jobs.  But he really has to do something better in the regular season than hover around .500 in the MAC before programs like Illinois can rationalize taking a look at him.  If we catch fire here I could see it, but if we continue losing on the road and finish 9-7, I don't think anybody big comes calling unless maybe we make a significant March run.

The more likely scenario is a better season next year, maybe like 13-3 or something and a solid trip to the tourney followed by Groce geting hired away.  My hope is that whenever it happens, Jeff Boals is still in the market for a head coaching job.

Why would he head back to Butler? Are you insinuating that Brad Stevens might be heading somewhere else?

No

I personally don't think Stevens would leave Indy but his name waas one of the ones tossed around....and you never know how much money the Big televenormore will throw at the problem. Champaign aint too far from Indy so as much as I dismissed the thought....money talks.

I agree. He hasn't done quite enough during the regular season yet to get a Big 10 job but I could be wrong. I could envision Creighton or Murray State's coach being on Illinois' radar.
