Any ideas on the major MAC awards this year?  For POTY the voters are going to have major issues because Akron is good by committee. They don't have any real standouts. The candidates as I see it are as follows:

Julian Mavunga
Justin Greene
Ryan Pearson
Jarrod Jones
D.J. Cooper
Javon McCrea
Mitchell Watt

If you look at the overall stats Mavunga stands out leading in both scoring and rebounding.  In the conference only stats however he is down to 6th in scoring and 2nd in rebounding. Pearson leads in scoring in conference by nearly a point and a half.  Watching all these players play my impression is that Javon McCrea is the best player but he isn't the most productive even on his own team.

COTY is another muddled mess. Candidates IMO are:

Keith Dambrot
Rob Murphy
Tod Kowalczyk

Personally, I'd give it to Pearson based on his conference numbers.  I don't see McRae as POY caliber if only because he has been shut down by OUr guys twice.  What about Coach Groce as COY?

Kowalcyk deserves the COTY award. That Rocket team has only gotten better and better and when you look at where they were a season ago to now, it's a fantastic turnaround.

Player of the Year is a tough one. I like Mavunga as a player the best, but I'm not sure he gets it because of Miami's struggles and I think he had a better season last winter, honestly.

I thought about including him but we are about where we were expected to be league-wise.  Overall I don't think anyone saw 22-6 coming but that EMU-UT swing doomed him IMO.

Pearson deserves POY, but not a Senior, and though greatly improved Toledo still not near the top of the league. Mavunga certainly credible candidate, especially w/o much of a supporting cast.

Per COY If Akron wins out I think it's gotta be Dambrot. If we can pull to #2 for regular season Groce certainly qualified.

This seems to be a pretty weak year for freshmen. If voters count Nick Harney or Demetrius Treadwell as redshirt freshmen, they could get some votes. But I don't see how it won't be Brian Sullivan.

They still play basketball at Miami?   Sorry, I forgot about him.  You are right, he's probably the winner.  Taylor should get some votes, though, IMHO.

Toledo Freshman PG Julius Brown dropped 29 this week against CMU. He doesn't have the shooting % that Sullivan has, but he is averaging 12 ppg and 5 apg. I think he should win it.

It's probably Sullivan but Abdel Nader on NIU or Julius Brown of Toledo should be in the discussion as well.

Brown, sure, but Nader's taken about 500 shots this year.

Is there anyone really deserving of any of the awards this year?  I'm not being cynical.  I honestly wonder if anyone (players, coach) has had a really distinguished season.  Kinda doesn't sound like it from the comments above.
