Big John's Ohio Northern Polar Bears played in the second round of the conference tournament last night in Marietta.  They beat the 3 seed Pioneers with a nice Athens contingent in the crowd to cheer them on.  As always, JR managed to hug everyone from Athens who drove over to watch his team.
As an aside, the game changer was the big man in the middle who seemed to have learned well from John's mentoring.

My wife works at ONU and sees Coach Rhodes from time to time. They've talked a bit about the Bobcats. He's always very friendly to her.

Why wasn't this announced beforehand? Some of us would've gone.

ONU faces second-seeded Capital on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

This is a nice little run the Polar Bears are putting together at the tail end of an up-and-down season.

My coverage area has local connections on both sides in that game. I'll be following.

They played the first round Monday after losing to Baldwin Wallace Saturday. On Monday they qualified for the trip to Marietta Tuesday.  Those who regularly follow the program were prepared to go on the road Tuesday. Everyone has a chance to head up to Columbus Thursday and, as Lou said, Coach will have more than enough hugs for us to go around.

That is a lot of play in a week. I suspect Scott Schnelle  is wont to not end his career. Should be a good contest, that said, Go Polar Bears!

I'd like to go, but have a commitment to help with the Digital Scout for Scioto's sectional game at 7:45. Capital has been playing well of late. One starter is Scioto's Kelly Winter. Very solid guard from class of 2007. Coach Goodwin there was a very good player at UD.

Wait a minute...John doesn't have a former point guard coaching his big men? Hmm...hope it catches on elsewhere.

Scott Schnelle is really impressive. For a guy who is 6-foot-9, he's a skilled passer. He scored or assisted in 24 straight points in the second half at one point last night.

Good to hear that Big John's team is having a good start to the conference tourney.  I can't go on Thursday, either, but if they keep winning maybe I can make a later game.

I'm feeling a bit of excitement here already. I am feeling the need to get in the gym and take it in.

For those of you who can't make it. Stretch Internet feed is here and tourney summary here. Finals are Saturday at a place TBD.
