Tonight has five of the most meaningful late season games in recent memory.

Buffalo @ Akron - Akron has a shot to clinch.  If Buffalo wins tonight it gets to sit and watch to see what they need to do.  When they play BG on Saturday all other MAC games will be over. They'll know exactly where they stand.

Ohio @ Kent State - Whichever team wins clinches a bye. An Ohio win coupled with a Buffalo loss would clinch the #2 seed.

Miami @ Bowling Green - BG still has a chance at a bye although winning at Buffalo on Saturday will be tough.  But the three teams (Kent, Buffalo, EMU) they are fighting for position with all have tough rows to hoe.

EMU @ WMU - Eastern can lock up the West (for whatever that's worth) but more importantly can stay alive for a possible bye.   They could be in trouble however if they don't get it tonight because they go into Toledo on Saturday.

Toledo @ NIU - Toledo looks to be the team that is playing the best in the West right now. After starting the conference season 2-7 they have a very realistic chance to finish 8-8.

If Buffalo, Ohio, BG, WMU and Toledo win tonight it will set up an epic Friday and Saturday.

Ever since divisional play resumed, I feel like who I cheer for in games depends on how we are doing the same day. Take that BG-Kent game for instance. Had we lost to Akron, I would have wanted a Kent win to help ensure that we stay above BG and get a bye of any kind. Since we beat Akron, it was a good thing BG won so we can keep an advantage over Kent.

How strong are our chances of landing in the NIT if we don't win the regular season? If our chances are strong, I'm cheering for Akron tonight. If they're not strong, I'd like Buffalo to win (as long as we win, too) so we can play for a chance at the regular season and #1 seed against Miami.

Right now our chances are pretty good but there are a lot of variables.  If a lot of regular season champs in one bid conferences lose in their tournaments then our chances aren't great.

Which is why I am rooting for Akron.  It would be great to clinch that number two seed!!

It would be, but how great would it be to actually  have a shot at a regular season MAC title and No. 1 seed? Plus the Zips could dip all the way to No. 3 in seeding. That would be even better. It's hard to root one way or the other in these games without knowing what might happen Friday and Saturday.

Nitology.com projects as a 5, and Buffalo also in as a 7.

The #1 seed would also guarantee us no worse than an NIT bid.  I will be rooting for Buffalo tonight and just hoping we take care of our end of the bargain.
