Anyone have a clue as to which site the winner of the MAC Tourny will be playing its first round game of the Big Dance?

We'll have to wait until Selection Sunday to figure it out.

Absolutely no way to tell. The committee is supposed to keep you fairly close to home, but it also will not give you a bigger advantage than the higher seed you're up against.

The nice thing is five of the eight sites are easily driveable: Columbus, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Nashville and Greensboro. I would think the other three probably would be avoided for the MAC rep, but you never know: Omaha, Portland and Albuquerque.

You never know. In 2001 they sent Kent State, a 13 seed, to San Diego, and sent Cal State-Northridge, also a 13 seed, to University of Dayton Arena. Figure that one out. Maybe they were trying to give a boost to the airline industry.

I'd assume that if the selection committee tries to keep teams closer to home, it would pay attention more to the higher-seeded team in that equation. So the MAC team would likely be sent packing to a site relatively close to the higher-seeded opponent, with no regard for where the MAC team is from. Just a hunch.

This is pretty much accurate.  The MAC rep could go anywhere.

I was looking at the sites and I agree that this is the most travel-friendly NCAA tournament for Ohio to get into in the last few years. There's no way in hell the committee puts an Ohio MAC team in Columbus (Ohio State would throw a hissy fit if they don't get the C-Bus venue but Ohio or Akron did), but Pittsburgh, Louisville or Nashville are really realistic drives for Ohio fans.

Ohio State is hosting the Columbus part of the tournament so it can't be seeded there. (If it was the Big Ten and not Ohio st. hosting they could though).  They'll probably end up in Pittsburgh or Louisville.

Selfishly, I want Ohio seeded to the West Regional, so when I'm in Phoenix for an already planned trip on 3/24 I can watch them advance to the Final Four.

Isn't the tourney site in Columbus at Nationwide Arena?  I thought as long as you were not in your home gym, you could still host in your home city.  Maybe I'm wrong.

It has to do with who is the hosting school. Since OSU is the only school in Columbus they have to be the hosting school.

A few years ago Pitt got to play in Pittsburgh because Duquesne was the hosting school.

my guess is the MAC gets the #14 seed in Nashville or Pitt.
