What is Tommy's contract status?  Do they normally have one year deals in Europe or is he signed longer term?

One year contract, in negotiations to try and keep him there. He started on his Masters In Int'l Biz as they threw the cost in trying to keep him there. Negotiations over everything are on the table. Cars, lodging and a numberor other perks that D league guys never get make the overseas gigs pretty cushy. Salary is jjust the tip of the iceberg. YOu can structure your contracts as many ways as you can think of. Newcastle is a good example. They are made up of many american players even though the limit is 3 per team. ONce you have been there you get dual citizenship and dont caount against the Rule. Nate Reinking is a good example playing for the British Olympic team....

Tommy and his american teamies are at the top of the league on a team that is opening a new arena next year. They have been 8th to 10th place their entire existence. There is a strong desire to keep them in WOrcester based on their perfromance and the consistent sell outs and demand for tickets. Good position to be in.

Some sage advice the other night. I was talking to Jason Gardner who emphasized the hapiness factor. He said it is very easy to chase the money all over Europe but in the end you have to enjoy where you are. He was on a team with Flomo and said that was his favorite place to be but he gave it up for more money and a not so good experience.

Are all those playing actually getting paid?  If so, some aren't earning their wages.

Yes ryan

They are all making money. No one plays for free. Whom are you referring to?

Lildude. Thanks for the reply. Tommy is still wrestling with the situation. He grew up hearing guys up at the Y and at the park  coming back from Europe and talking about agents and leagues every year. Now he gets to do that before settling into coaching or "real Life" but for now he still loves the game and is enjoying the system he is in .He is able to do things and showcase his skills for the first time at any level stepping away form the job previous coaches put him in  as a  role player and yet still making his team mates better. Enjoying successes and  using more of his repetoire now and  really lights up as he talks and enjoys that. Still must balance whether to stay and let his game blossom or to look for a bigger challenge. The off court things always are part of that decision and we have been wearing skype out talking about living situations, continuing education, transportation and travel expenses. Thanks for your input , you can PM me anytime and I will respond over there. Tommy  made the jump the other day unbeknownst to me to a different agency and is looking forward to the summer again with camps at OU, ONU and acouple of other places in addition to his work with Proshot teaching shootinig. He is also going to play the pro Am league at Indy this summer reuniting with his old running mates a couple of nights a week. Not sure if he will get to playthe interleague games but there is a to n of talent that comes hom e to Indy every year. Most of those guys (and us parents) are pretty close to each other keeping in touch  regualrly

I told him the day after his last HS game he was 6 to 7 years away from his best ball. TIme is a wasting and he is a long way from 2010 when I was told..... "Weeeellll TOm, I have been doing this a long time and  had a lot better athletes who were not good enough to play overseas....."

BTW Martell Mclemore put up 30 the other night for Guildford. Another MAC player contributing to his team.

All those guys on the yellow team in lildude's video link who were just standing around and were walking up the court more than the 50-year-old guys I play pickup games with on Thursday nights!

Slackers. You are right though.....competition varies. I did see George Hill the other day  at the Indy airport lighting up a cigarette as he waited for a taxi. Makes you wonder ho w those guys get up and down the court in the first place. Yong studs like Devo pass em like they standing still.

I believe Mario Lemieux smoked two packs a day at one point.

Was a cigarette or something like a Swisher or Black and Mild?

I love these threads. Whoever is responsible for Washingtons vids, keep it up. Everybody needs vids, though.
