That was a nice tribute from Ohio noting 50 plus years of broadcasting in the MAC. Why would Miami put the name of one of the most polarizing figures in their history on their court before they would even honor Coach Hedric who was arguably one of the best they ever had ? He beat Dean Smith and Bobby Knight with his Miami teams on the road. Charlie is great but he pales in comparison when looking at Coach Hedric who was also a player alum. Is anyone here who knows Coach Hedric's record against the Bobcats? I suspect it was pretty good.
I would hardly say he pales in comparison. Charlie had a better conference record, same number of MAC titles, same number of NCAA appearances, more NCAA tournament victories. Hedric was over .500 in 7 of his 14 seasons at Miami. Coles was over .500 in 10 of his 16. I would also say calling Coles one of the most polarizing figures in their history considerable hyperbole. If the internet had been around in the 70s we might have gotten to hear the Redskin fans whine and complain about Hedric as well. I agree that it would be hard to name the court after Charlie because of Hedric but they are both sitting at the same table at the banquet.
