The only circle is the guy shoots 28% from three.  If he shoots 40%, I have no problem with chucking them up early.

Only 2 were with less than 19 seconds left.  But some of those early in the shot clock 3s were good shots...I am OK with him toeing the line and firing a three when the defender is not in his face.

I refer back to my bullet point list...We are going to go in circles on this discussion forever.

That's what I'm saying.  There were a couple of shots that made me wince but other than that I had no problem with his shot selection last night.  His effective FG% on the night was 50% compared to 38% for the rest of the team.  And the good that he did far, far outweighed the bad.  The focus on D.J.'s shot selection last night is so far down the list of "What Went Wrong Last Night" it's laughable.  The focus should be elsewhere. And to the comment about Walter not getting enough touches that is completely on him.  I'm not big on calling people out but he and Kellogg spent most of the first half standing in one place.   Did anyone see the graphic about Kellogg's career shooting against Kent?  Before last night he was something like 10-16 on 3pt tries and 0-0 on 2 pointers. He still has not attempted a 2 pointer.  They put a guy in his face and he was helpless to do anything about it.  And then there is the fact that our bigs appears to be afraid of their bigs.   People love to look at stats and draw conclusions but they don't tell the whole story.   Fact: When DJ takes a lot of shots we are in trouble.  Story behind the fact: When DJ takes a lot of shots it's not because he refuses to pass the ball. It's because the rest of the team is standing around watching and not working.  We came into the game last night fat and happy and we paid the price.

I know correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation. But DJ shoots the ball on average 7 times more per game in losses than he does wins.

Losses Overall 3-pointers
Louisville 6 17 35.3% 3 11 27.3%
RMU 3 17 17.6% 2 12 16.7%
BG 5 17 29.4% 3 7 42.9%
Akron 2 15 13.3% 1 6 16.7%
Toledo 6 16 37.5% 4 10 40.0%
EMU 3 12 25.0% 3 10 30.0%
Kent St. 9 21 42.9% 3 11 27.3%

Losses 34 115 29.6% 19 67 28.4%
Wins 93 254 36.6% 37 124 29.8%

Average Wins 3.4 9.4   1.6 5.4
Average Losss 4.9 16.4   2.7 9.6

DJ Cooper is the worst best point guard and future hall of famer in Ohio Basketball history.

Every few games (if not every game) DJ gets to watch all the missed wide open looks, missed layups, inept attempts to score inside, terrible turnovers, and etc. by the rest of the team, and then get crucified on bobcattacack.com afterwards.

Good grief.

Anyone else think its possible that subconsciously he's going to hold onto the ball more after a first half of so many fumbled passes?

The fact that people even try to put this on cooper is beyond me. If everytime i passed it down low my forward dropped the ball (literally) then i would probably hold on to the ball more too. We have a very good team but last night cooper was the only one scoring. I sure hope he doesnt know this board exists cause that would do wonders for his confidence. Geeze

Anyone ever think maybe we have it backwards?

We aren't losing because he shoots a lot. He shoots a lot because we are losing.

Either because we are quickly trying to get back into the game or because the other guys just aren't getting open and aren't being effective on offense.

I probably wouldn't have passed it to our bigs much last night if I was DJ either.

Who is putting this on Cooper? If you're playing the blame game for last night, he's probably not in the top three. He is a very good/great player that could be better by shooting less. I don't know why that offends everyone. His shooting percentages have declined into the Bert Whittington neighborhood. That either indicates his shooting or shot selection is getting worse. Ohio is far better with him on the floor than with out him to be sure. I guess maybe we as fans focus on that more because we see shot selection as being more controllable than other physical aspects of the game.

I don't think it's that people are offended (at least, I'm not), it's that posters are saying he shouldn't have taken so many shots last night ... okay then, what should he have done? Other players weren't making shots and were turning the ball over or dropping his passes. So what does he do in that situation? Just keep passing it and pray they'll eventually start catching it and be able to finish?

I guess Cooper is like an NFL QB in that he gets all the post game attention no matter what.

He's going to take 2-3 shots that make me grimace every game.  And pretty much play very well the rest of the way.

The rest of the team seems more inconsistent game to game to me.  And, that's more the problem with our Bobcats me thinks.

I have theorized this before.

I just tried to watch the replay and barely made it to half time. There's no way you can watch that and not see that the problem was our Bigs. Ivo was loping around all over the place like a labrador who just discovered the fence gate is open and I'm almost positive Keeley was actually sleep walking.

It never helps when Keely decides to have a case of the butterfingers, he can be a really good player, but when he doesn't pay attention and his hands fail him that night is over for him.  Add to Ivo having a bad game and suddenly you have no frontcourt game and thus makes it way too easy on the other team to defend us.  Plus it looked like to me that Stevie was hurt and thus didn't play much for us which lost us his off the bench spark.
