The main quote:  "We've had problems with these guys on the court, off the court, classroom, drugs, being late for stuff. ... You can't do all that BS and then just expect to be a good team and win games,"

Wow.  Can't believe a coach would say that.

College sports needs more coaches like Pat Knight. No sugar coating, calls his guys out to grow up from being late, doing drugs, not being prepared. I love all of it.

But ask yourself, why are these guys still on the team and who was accountable for that?

Bigger yet, Knight better not go throwing criminal allegations out into the ether (I don't think he's talking about asprin) without some well thought out defense (unlikely - the apples don't fall far from the tree).

The NCAA should be in his office right now asking some hard questions.

I agree that he crossed a line. This is one of those videos that seems really cool until you start to actually think about it. A dude making six figures says scholarship players are stealing tuition money, blithely accuses them of breaking a variety of laws, and says they have been lousy all year. These are kids he gets six figures to help win, and to make better players and people. One assumes he was fighting with this group all year and finally went public. I'm not saying he doesn't have a valid point (he probably has plenty), but it shouldn't be done publicly. Berating kids for playing poorly is one thing, but essentially calling an entire class on your team a pack of criminal losers isn't exactly the best way to impress future recruits. Put another way, the coach is part of the team, and in that interview he blamed all of his teammates for the loss. It's actually quite self-serving. He had a year to mold these kids, discipline them if they broke rules, and make them better. It hasn't worked as he envisioned, and he's now taking it all out on them very publicly. It's crass and childish -- and if he's anything like his father, he'd probably take that as a compliment.

If you see the full video, Knight interrupts an interview with a player, tells the kid, "I'm back; you don't know anything about winning" and kicks him out of the briefing room.  That's uncalled for.  Straight out of the Bob Knight playbook of classlessness.

Oh come on, SBH- it's not like he tried to choke the kid or throw a chair at him, or something like that.

To be honest, I never liked Bobby Knight, and now I don't like his son Pat!  They both thought/think they can do/ say anything they like. As they say, the apple does not fall far from the tree!!

This will do wonders for recruiting.

Honestly, I have no problem with what he said at all. If his seniors displayed the traits he says they do, they deserve to be called out.

Don't know what he's done up to now, but if he really wanted to get the players' attention he should be suspending some of these guys or booting them off the team.  Consider the seniors a lost cause and start getting game time for guys who really want to play.  Taking it public like this is classless.  Should make for an interesting Senior Day at Lamar next Saturday.

Six of Lamar's eight top players are seniors. Can't get rid of them all. They are the most experienced team in college basketball.

Not to mention, one of his senior's is 6'2 Devon Lamb, all he did was have 15 rebounds (8 offensive) in that game.

Pat Knight needs to chill out.

Frankly, if I was a senior,I would probably quit as the coach has already quit on them.

Lot easier to rip players you didn't recruit. Let's see if he does the same to the kids he brings in if they don't do what he wants.

and now comes the part no one will ever see, the ensuing win over Sam Houston. According the their message board this is how the seniors respond.

Nice win for Lamar! I expected that they would come out and play hard just as they have every time but one when there has been an issue with the team. CardAmbassador, you don't want to hear the questioning again? Really? After disciplinary actions by Coach K the Cards are now 7-1 but if you notice 8 times this year Coach has had to do something to motivate them to play better. I would love to think the seniors finally 'get it' but I'm not making any bets on it. I want 20 wins and Lamar can do it. I want a strong showing in the SLC tournament and Lamar can do it. But, if I had to bet my life on it, well------. I join Cardinal Nation in celebrating a nice win on the road but this team has effed up enough that I am holding my breath the rest of the way!

Coach Knight responded in the press following the game ca.sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news  . It surely won't change the thoughts of the masses but it deserves to be reported as part of the bigger story instead of just focusing on the initial presser.

What bigger story?  You either publicly lay waste to your players, or you don't.  I think coaches ought not to do so.  But, I guees this is what is to be expected from a Knight.

The entire story is in that article. There are those who live by the media and respond with an opinion based on what the talking heads say, never making up their minds for themselves. The article is an important piece unless you are an avowed all things Knight hater and have no interest in the mental side of dealing with 18 year olds.

I am no Knight fan, and have been critical in the past of Knight  Senior  (after all he is a Buckeye) but I am always interested in getting the entire story. I read this article and thought, in fairness, it should appear here. It is always good to look at entire story whether it is surrounding a basketball team or voting for President. Never trust the media to do what you should be doing as a member of a greater community.
