I think you’re right. Hunter has more turnovers than assists last two games and is averaging 3 a game. If Boals isn’t ready to turn the keys over the Sheldon; I’d just let Miles bring the ball up and start EJ4 at this point. Miles might not be a facilitator, but he takes better care of the ball.

Didn't get to watch this one, bummed about that because I wanted to see Towns and how he would approach this game. Sounds like he came with a little extra and rightly so. He would be a perfect PF for us right now.

AJ Clayton with only 11 minutes? Wow. Did not see that coming.

I think Clayton only got 11 minutes because he looked lost even during those 11 minutes he got. IF Boals is going to get thumped this year playing the “vets” (Hunter-Baker-BRod, etc.) I would start to look to the future and start to play AJB, Elmore Sheldon, Hadaway with significant minutes and take the lumps with youth.

Towns flipped off the team first, then it appeared he did the same to a fan/fans behind us -- I was in the first row behind bench. He acted like a punk much of the night. He'd fit right in on an Akron team.

Having seen this team up close and personal a couple of times, I can't believe we'll qualify for a first round bye in the MAC tourney. In fact, we might not make it to Cleveland.

Sad to say, because I've defended him in the past, but Wiz is barely a project level contributor. It was interesting to watch Boals's expression during some of Wiz's really bad streaks last night. You can tell he's resigned to the fact that #11 was a recruiting miss.

Not surprised Clayton was benched. Guy has zero intensity. He shows no signs of improvement over his promising freshman year.

Is IJ really hurt or are they redshirting him for strategic reasons? If he's not hurt, we've apparently thrown in the towel on 2022-23.

AJ Brown is a defensive liability and does not hit the boards...but one of our only offensive threats.

BRod was not bad yesterday. He's the only vocal leader we seem to have.

This is not the Dwight Wilson of the past. It's obvious he's nervous about his knee, which helps explain his inability to finish at the rim.

Elmore James needs to play a lot more. Frankly, Olumide needs minutes, too. At least he brings energy and athleticism.

I'd like to think this team can come together and overperform but we're missing too many pieces. I don't like the trajectory of the program.

As for BG, Huger has done a great job with that team.

Massive concerns the rest of the way for this season and 2023-2024. Let's face it...we don't have a center (who knows what IJ will become??) or a PG right now on this roster for next season. Sorry, Hunter isn't a PG. He doesn't distribute enough to be a PG, doesn't shoot well enough to be a shooting guard and isn't big enough to be a small forward. His passing and decision making skills make Mark Sears look like Chris Paul.

I wasn't kidding a month ago when I said an 0-5 start in conference play was realistic. Boals has to stop rotating guys every 2 minutes and 30 seconds....it's absolutely maddening. He started doing this three minutes in against Belmont and it hasn't stopped.

BRod gets 25 minutes a game and Elmore gets 10 minutes per game. It should be reversed. Start playing for the future and take the leash off Elmore and let's see what we have. The glimpses that we've seen over last six games are encouraging.

I would have AJ Clayton come off the bench. He is passive and low energy. Have no idea why he's not more impactful. Clayton not playing well really handcuffs this team. When he's engaged like he was against Delaware, this team is obviously better. When he's not engaged, we are screwed. And for the most of the year, we've been screwed. How many games has he gone to the half with 3 points or less?

Baker is what he is. Shoots a ton...doesn't make a ton. Makes terrible decisions (see end of Michigan game regulation and end of Bowling Green with 30 seconds left). Sorry...but this one hit wonder is a whiff for Boals and nobody can tell me differently. Boals needed Hunter and Baker to not struggle as transfers, but unfortunately that's what he's getting.

Somebody needs to explain how Chris Mack gave the Whiz a full scholarship at Louisville? I guess we can understand more why Chris Mack is no longer the coach at Louisville. Boals expressions are telling when it comes to his play, but hey, he recruited him to Athens.

As I said from day one, I've been a Boals guy from the moment he put on the Ohio uniform. But he gets judged just like every other coach before him. Recruiting misses are starting to show some ugly warts right now. The end of season collapse last year and the lack of "team" ball this year has been incredibly disappointing. We beat Virginia in the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and two years later it looks like we are going to struggle just to make the MAC Tournament? That should never, ever happen.

With all this said, it still wouldn't surprise me if we beat Ball State Tuesday night. Call it a gut feeling or channeling the eternal optimist in me.

I’ve seen a few people in here say that AJ Brown is a Liability on defense hopefully we all do understand that he is a Freshman and has been guarding the best players on each team the last few games and many of the shots that are being scored on him are because our upperclassmen guards can’t stay in front of somebody and he has to help off his assignments on defense which will lead to a late close-out and made shot.

AJ does need to work on getting more rebounds but the truth is if we do not have him we would be way worse.

As for going OH and Five. Just a reminder that as bad as OHIO results have been at BGSU, I feel Kent fans would say the same about Kent's results in Athens.

OHIO will be no worse than 1-3 after 4. (as long as the team that played Delaware shows up for 1 of the 2)!

I agree with your whole take, but I think the answer is pretty clear on this one. B-Rod was incredible his sophomore year and had a trajectory that realistically suggested All-MAC in his junior season. He then went out and had a worse season than he did as a freshman, and that sophomore B-Rod has yet to reappear. I don't know anything about his health or state of mind so I have no clue as to how or why it happened. But as a fan, regression is painful to watch (see also: Good Ivo, bad Ivo).

I haven't watched the game yet. Not sure if I will at this point. I agree with others here that Adelodun and EJ4 need to play more. I would be ok with Adelodun getting a bunch of time at the 4 spot. If nothing else, he will hustle for rebounds and play tough defense. Both are things that this team needs badly.

I've been a MAC hoops fan long enough (and most of you have too) to know this is not as catastrophic as you're all making it out to be. Let's not forget what our expectations were. We lost our 3 best players...all 3 of which have succeeded at the highest levels of college basketball. This fact alone should have tampered our expectations a bit, especially early on.

But even skipping past all that...we had 2 close road losses to 2 middle-of-the-road MAC teams. We had a shot to tie Buffalo at the end and we led BG at the under 4 timeout. You can almost set your calendar to BA meltdowns for when Ohio has a 2-3 game road trip against decent MAC teams where we all panic. Then we all swoon and dream after we get a few nice wins at home.

I'd like to give our guys a chance to even things up at home before panic sets in.

As for the game, this felt less frustrating than the Buffalo game. I thought BG played really well...took care of the ball and hit their free throws. Not sure any team in the MAC would have beaten them on Saturday. It really came down to taking care of the ball as BG was +9 on turnovers.

AJ ended up playing 32 minutes so I can't criticize his playing time. He struggled to finish in the 2nd half, ended up 6 for 16 from the field.

Wiz was really bad again, 2 rough ones to start his MAC career. He is a moving screen machine. Let's stop having him move so much, just get him on the post. He rebounds and finished pretty well but man he is rough outside the paint.

Clayton only 11 minutes likely due to coach feeling like Roderick had it working so he rolled with him. B-rod had a good game.

I didn't have the highest of hopes, but I did expect the team to have some kind of identity and clear direction by now. They have neither. They don't have rotations that work. We can all agree that lots of minutes are not being allocated correctly. There's talent on the team but the team feels like an unfocused mess and we're too late in the season for that to be acceptable.

And in some ways it's worse that they're not just awful. They're a team that can hammer Delaware on the road or lose by what seemed like 100 against Florida. They can hang with Michigan or get run out of the gym by 6-11 Detroit. The Jekyll and Hyde were on full display Saturday. They clawed into the lead with a lot of heart and then absolutely shriveled in crunch time.
