Hey all, figured I would give some analysis and observations on how our transfer players are doing so far this year.
#11 Gabe Witznitzer: 12 GP, 1 GS, 179 Mins played, 65% from field, 0% from three on one attempt, 78.6% FT's made, 43 total RB's for 3.6 per game, 8 AST's, 19 TO's, 2 BLK's, 3 STL's, 63 pts, 5.3 PPG.
Although I think a lot of us here were first disappointed in his first couple of games, I think he is getting back on his feet here at Ohio. He is already been given over 2x the minutes he got in two years at Louisville COMBINED. While yes this has shown cracks I've found he has acclimated quite well with a few solid games under his belt against Stetson and Marshall. His hands and rebounding are improving and he's finishing better in the paint. He is also IMO one of our best FT shooters. The trajectory he is on, he is well on track to replace Dwight at starting center for 23-24. 120-130 point season is my prediction as rotation center.
#12 Jaylin Hunter: 12 GP, 12 GS, 341 Mins played, 39% from field, 35% from three, 77% FT's made, 43 total RB's for 3.6 per game, 53 AST's, 28 TO's, 2.07 TO Ratio, 3 BLK's, 17 STL's, 116 pts, 9.7 PPG.
Jaylin has slotted into starting PG quite well, but has a few aspects that are
a little concerning to me so far this year. He is generating 2 AST's to 1 TO which is a little under average for a PG and he's been a bit streaky at times at as a shooter. His TO's are a bit high as well. But, I love that he generates offense and is a leader on the floor. He's very good at defense, especially seeing how he can force turnovers on the opposing PG. He is very unselfish, sometimes to the point I wish he would shoot it more haha. I think he will be a great piece for this and next year and is a great PG for Sheldon / Estis to develop under. 200-300 point season.
#22 DeVon Baker: 12 GP, 10 GS, 282 Mins played, 37% from field, 29% from three, 75% FT's made, 21 total RB's with 1.8 per game, 22 AST's, 8 TO's, 1 BLK, 13 STL's, 94 pts scored, 7.8 PPG.
I was a bit let down hearing about how DeVon would be a go to scorer for us this year, but I think the recent roster change of coming off the bench is way better for him. He's shot better since the change and is also proving to be a pivotal guy on defense. He is still a very solid depth piece for this year, and if he gets hot he is very hard to stop. 180-190 point season.
Overall, I think we sit at a solid B grade with our transfer guys. Let's make some noise in MAC play!!!
