THis has bothered me for some time.
I have long maintained the officiating is giving guys a way unfair advantage on catches and pivot feet. Robison from BSU drove me crazy when I sat down near the floor as each step he caught, shifted pivot foot and shifted back on a ball fake to the cutter then shifted again before he put the ball on the deck. 695 and I let the ref know we were extremely dissatisfied with the lack of call.
Watching
this example you can see the catch , defensive player establishes position then has to move and reposition as you count the number of times the offense shifts the pivot foot. People talk about such and explosive first step. Not so much impressive when you see how the player gains an advantage by movement. Everyone of us who plays has been told to "guard the belly button, the feet don't go anywhere without it"...impossible when the belly button has tons of movement
