THis has bothered me for some time.

I have long maintained the officiating is giving guys a way unfair advantage on catches and pivot feet. Robison from BSU drove me crazy when I sat down near the floor as each step he caught, shifted pivot foot and shifted back on a ball fake to the cutter then shifted again before he put the ball on the deck. 695 and I let the ref know we were extremely dissatisfied with the lack of call.

Watching this example you can see the catch , defensive player establishes position then has to move and reposition as you count the number of times the offense shifts the pivot foot. People talk about such and explosive first step. Not so much impressive when you see how the player gains an advantage by movement. Everyone of us who plays has been told to "guard the belly button, the feet don't go anywhere without it"...impossible when the belly button has tons of movement

Additional footwork

Referee standing right there in the first example.....

I knew this was going to be about Austin Rivers before I even clicked on the link.

He gets away with a travel every time he touches the ball.

I don't know if the refs are just too slow to notice it or what the deal is, but that's a call that gets made multiple times a game in every high school game in the country. Not sure why Rivers keeps getting away with it.

Ref names are public.

Here are the refs from that UNC/Duke game:  http://statsheet.com/mcb/games/2012/03/03/north-carolina-88-duke-70

Wow. I can understand the first one since it was an all-star game and they tend to be a littler looser with the calls but that second compilation is unbelievable.

BTW, I thought this thread was going to be about Walt's fear of flying.

Eades had us I think on the road at MIAMI in 09 or 10 then came back and had us in the CBI and vs toledo at home last year. He made the baseline call on the charge to beat Marshall but was not very good the rest of that game. ETSU he was fairly invisible.

INterestgly enough, I don't think in the 6 years I have been attending OHio games regularly that I have ever seen the other 2

They lack of traveling calls, the interpretation of a legal guarding position, and the interpretation of contact on the shooter are all designed to promote the offense at the expense of what used to be good defense. Fans love the scoring until their team is screwed by officials not following the actual rules of the game.

The pool of officials seems to be shrinking, and they've never been rocket scientists anyway, so it only goes to figure that who knows what they'll call. Eg, Bo Borinski was the only official to see AND call the traveling violation on Watt when he fell last nite - right in front of the baseline official who seemed to have been in over his head this whole tournament.

Bo wa a great HD offiial here in IN, worked his way up through D2 and 3 till he hit the big time. He has been controversial i.e. the Butler Xavier game with the colck issue but he is also well grounded and raised in the game.

I have not enjoyed him as a college ref half as much as I did when he was over here foing HS hoops.....still he does make good calls like Watt rolling onthe floor and is not really shy about over ruling a fellow ref is he is right and does not cop out or say the one thing I hate the most..."it was not my area"   I like that he calls the game and does not worry about where his area stops and statrs if something is a violation.
