OUr University is very capable of supporting both a strong Football team and a great BBall team.  This is my observation after working in Political Finance for a while and meeting people who have come from the University across Ohio and the nation.

I honestly sometimes dream (in a very nerdy way) of coming back to Athens and helping to fundraise for the Athletic programs.  Our Alumni could definitely become more involved and make Ohio University a force in multiple sports in a self sustaining way that would allow OUr sports to grow.

Honestly after typing this up I would be willing to take a pay cut in the future if someone could connect me with the appropriate parties about different fundraising ideas I could bring.

**I am not trying to insult anyone currently involved with fundraising activities for OU Athletics**

I know exactly how you feel. As a current OHIO marketing student, I feel a very strong urge to get involved with promotion and fundraising. I have so many ideas that I would like to mention to the AD. Also, has any BA'er ever tried advertising this site at games? BA is a GREAT way to keep fans involved. It'll turn a weekend warrior into a seasoned veteran.

Side note, the players are well aware of this sight and they do read it.

Nick and The Green, you guys are two breaths of fresh air! I truly hope you are not dissuaded from your mindset ... and that you have the energy and determination to march forward. There are people on this board who can -- and I dare say, WILL -- help connect you with university leadership. Do not be dissuaded by what some others may chime in with :)

Thanks Cat.  I too have wondered about advertising BA at BBall and Football games.  That is something I would be willing to chip in for.  It would definitely help keep fans connected.  We have a bunch of great posters on this board that allow people like me to come on a few times a week and check out recruits, scores, news, etc for multiple sports.

Great to see this thinking, this spirit.

Given the time in the desert (40 years of mostly horrid football from about 1968 until about 2007) and some off years in hoops, support for athletics dwindled.  Which is too bad.  Because we must have the deepest student / alumni / friends affinity of any university in the world.  That love for Ohio needs to be fully tapped, with some of the tap being cash.

Thanks a lot for the info DA.  I will be in contact to see if there is room in the future for a fresh face in the development department.

Honestly with both major sports doing so well recently, the next few years could lead to historic giving.  If we can get a good donor base/following OUr teams could get a great increase in budget/facilities.

Monroe, horrid football started in about 1985, the Brian Burke years were OK -- not great -- but not horrid.  That started with Old Freak Nasty and was carried to new heights by PapaL.  Burke, until this year, held the all time percentage winning record over that school in Oxford.  Got Frank's now got that one, but he needs to keep winning against them to keep it.
