Ian Eagle and Jim Spanarkel.  I'm a big Jim Sparnakel fan. Not so much as an annoucer but I loved him as a player.  My mom was a Dukie and was pretty involved in the DC alumni association.  The ACC tournament was held in DC (actually Landover, MD) in 1976 and we got to see every game.  Spanarkel was a freshman on that team.  They nearly knocked off #2 seed Maryland, who I was rooting for, much to my mother's chagrin, before losing in overtime.  But you could tell Spanarkel was going to be really good. Tate Armstrong was the go to guy for Duke but Spanarkel provided great support.  For those of you old enough to remember that was the magical Wally Walker year with Virginia shocking the college basketball world by beating #3 seed NC State, #2 Maryland and #1 UNC.

And 'Spanarkel' became a respected verb.

I don't think CBS renewed Gus's contract last year. That's why he was calling football games on FX last season.

Gus Johnson's contract was up so he was a free agent. CBS wanted to re-sign him, but he signed a big deal with Fox. He calls Pac-12 football games (along with some NFL) and the Big Ten Championship game on Fox and he still calls basketball games on the BTN.

Watching that clip makes me appreciate OUr guys so much more.

Primping and preeening on the sideline. Stiff as a board. He may be great  on mike and analytically but I hardly think he would get inside our guys and the program as much as OUr guys.

Been enjoyng the heck outta Raftery this year though he has a huge Big lEast bias.

Clark seems to be moving around a bit this tourney.

IMHO, Johnson doesn't fit well with football.

Agree with you.

Watched some games this year of him with football and didn't really care for him there.

He does a lot of the BTN basketball games where his style "fits" basketball better.

Not sure if you're aware Eroc, but Gus Johnson is a Bobcat ... he's one of OUr former basketball players.

Felt like we got spoiled getting Bill Raftery and Verne Lundquist the last two times we were in the tournament. Those two together are just the best.

Ian Eagle is competent and professional, but you'll never confuse him with Gus. CBS loves him, as they've moved him up to the No. 3 slot on their NFL coverage. Back when he was doing bottom-feeder games a few years ago, it seemed like he was doing Browns games every week. A few of my friends in the office joked that he had his own office at Browns Stadium.
