Is Nashville considered a dangerous city, altogether? I've never had a discussion about avoiding so much of one city in my life. Isn't it in the south? Aren't people supposed to be nice there?

It's in that middling section of crime rates. For murder rates it's about where Fort Wayne and Toledo are on the spectrum. It's not Detroit, Baltimore or Atlanta or anything, though.

Crime-wise you're safer in Nashville than any of the major Ohio cities.

Actually, it was more than enough for my wife and I to get a room at the Extended Stay America near the airport. It includes a kitchenette. Sure, it's not luxurious, but it's in the same area as a lot of the epxensive hotels and it should save us tons of money.

Wasn't there a pretty sobering series about the gangs in Nashville on Spike or Discovery or History channel a while back. Scary stuff IIRC.

i'd love to stay downtown but i cant support paying $300+ when there are multiple fine hotels around the airport for at/under $100 or so.   

now if my wife was making the trip....we might not be so inclined to stay further away in moderate accomodations.  but "The Fellas" don't mind saving the dough we'd spend on an upscale hotel for more cash for postgame libations at Margaritaville and The Wheel.
