Just out there doing John Groce things. Don’t think he’ll be coaching at Akron next year.

Was thinking this last night watching the game. Akron has a real shot to make some tourney noise, which is also a John Groce thing.

I think there probably is a Power 5 Athletic Director that will give him another shot. And it could be a package deal where he brings Enrique Freeman with him. I know there are some Groce haters on this board (which I don’t get), but I said it when Akron hired him that Groce would do well and this was bad news for Ohio. He’s not Jim Whitesell.

Agreed. Illinois is tough job, too. If I recall, Lorenzo Romar and Shaka both passed on the job before Groce even got his chance to interview. He finished with a winning record overall at Illinois and his recent body of work at Akron is really impressive. If Akron repeats as MAC champ he should get some looks.

Better than a losing a record, my guy. But yes, his lack of Big10 wins sank him. Just making a point he wasn’t an utter disaster at the P5 level.

The Ohio State job might be open soon too.

(I don't see them bringing in John, but the pressure to replace Holtmann is going to be significant)

If Akron repeats as MAC champs and wins a tourney game then sure Groce might get another low tier P5 shot, but honestly I don't see either of those things happening.

Still think Kent wins the league with a return game to the MAC Center still upcoming for Kron.

Basically the same group as last season minus Ali Ali that made no noise in THE tourney. Unless you are saying the MAC tourney. Yes, if Castaneda and Freeman each score 30 points a game in the NCAA they would likely make some noise by Zips fans when they still remain with ZIP wins in the Dance.

No, I’m talking NCAA tourney. Akron lost 57-53 to UCLA last year. Ali had 5 points, meanwhile Casteneda and Freeman led the way with 14 and 18 points. So yea, hate Akron all you want but it 100% can make tourney noise this season.

With ya FJC31....not sure why folks try to discredit this Akron team. I've seen them play a lot and Freeman in my opinion is the best player in the conference. He can't be guarded. If Groce goes to back-to-back dances, he's gonna get P5 looks.

In the last 6 years, Akron is 111 - 66 and Kent is 116 - 64. In the 10 years before that, Akron had a far better record. In the last 10 years, Kent has been in the MAC finals twice and Akron 5 times.

Gonna go on a ledge and assume OCF was referring to just this season as it pertains to the ability of Groce to jump or not.

Groce, not good at learning from other's mistakes?

Boals gets t-d up and team goes in the dumper. Groce goes nuts and suddenly a close game turns into a near blowout.

Keep your cool John, your temper made your players think they couldn't win with 5 against 6 on the floor.
