Has anyone else noticed that it appears that coaches, basketball & football, are being quite vague on player injuries.
This JP injury ..... "Lower extremity" is certainly up to interpretation.
Has anyone else noticed the same thing going on this year?

That is funny. It is a product of our laws. I wonder if the same is true overseas. Franchises and amateur sports have responded with vagaries of dealing with news of injuries in a curious way.

Has anything been said about how long Preston is expected to be out?

Is there even a reporter covering the team to ask about Preston's injury and return? It's the program's right not to provide injury information, but normally when the best player on the team is injured, a member of the media would ask the coach about it and report what he says - and/or ask to interview the player who can choose whether to be interviewed and disclose any injury information.

Thanks, I hadn't been to Arkley's blog in a while, but just checked and saw that he has reported that Boals says it hopefully is a short-term injury and that Preston is making progress, but hasn't returned to practice yet. Pretty vague, but still is helpful to know and I appreciate Arkley's reporting.

I had always heard that hockey teams were vague so other teams and players did not know which body part to attack when the player got back.

Probably best to redshirt Nolan and Jalen White. That way you can have White join Clayton as freshmen next year and keep Foster as a sophomore with three years of eligibility. I really was looking forward to his development but he obviously is having injury issues that stopped that development. I worry like crazy at the thought, though, of losing Wilson next year and not having a big to step in. I also know that in this strange landscape of transfers etc that BVP isn't guaranteed either for next year although he's my favorite Bobcat of all time so hopefully he stays with us.

Don't b-ball players get an extra year of eligibility because of covid, like football players did?

Nope. Based on media reports like this one in today's Dispatch.

The Ohio State men's basketball team will be without senior guard CJ Walker for Saturday’s game at No. 15 Rutgers, and possibly longer, due to torn ligaments in his right hand."

Pretty specific reporting of a medical condition.

Under HIPPA -- the school can release injury information to the media, but must first have the athlete's permission.

"Regarding the sharing of information with the media, this issue is clear-cut. Under HIPAA, personal health information can be provided to sports information staff or the media only with authorization from the athlete (Magee et al., 2003)."

Good for them, I still fail to see how it's our right to know the injury status of a student athlete.

This article is a few years old and I was unable to find anything official on this, but as more and more states legalize gambling on college sports, this will certainly be a point of discussion.

Im trying to understand why any coach would want one their players to share injury information. Most likely if the coach doesn’t want it, the player will keep quiet.
