Purely from the standpoint of the math, you are spot on, Stunter. However (let the discussion begin) ... I still hark back to the 1960s and would suggest that three years -- 1960-61, 1963-64 and 1968-69 -- each has to be mentioned in the same breath with OUr 2011-12 FB/BB.

In each of those years, the combined total victories for FB/BB was 27. Total victories aside, each of those years had something very special about them -- and because of the number of opportunities to win back in the day, getting to a combined 36 wins would have required something extraordinarily special.

1960-61 -- FB went 10-0, outscoring OUr opponents 269-34 (never gave up more than 8 points in a game), won the MAC and were named National Small College Champion. BB went 17-7 and won the MAC (10-2). The five losses outside the MAC were to #1-ranked OSU (season opener), #7-ranked St. John's, DePaul, and Louisville twice, including the opener of the NCAA tourney.

1963-64 -- FB record was a lack-luster 6-4 ... but we won the MAC. BB was 21-6 and won the MAC (10-2) ... then went on to avenge an earlier-season loss to Louisville by beating the Cardinals in the first round of the NCAA ... then destroyed #4-ranked Kentucky and Cotton Nash, 85-69, in the second round which put OUr team in the Elite Eight where we went neck-and-neck with #2-ranked Michigan for 30 minutes before stumbling (I still see the turnovers that paved the way for UM), 69-57.

1968-69 -- FB and legendary QB Cleve Bryant raced through the regular season 10-0, winning the MAC (of course) before dropping the Tangerine Bowl 49-42 to Richmond. BB went 17-9 and did not win the MAC (9-3) but was invited to the NIT (this was a time when the NIT was a very nice consolation prize to the NCAA, because the NCAA wasn't a bloated field). Lost to Tennessee in the second round. The other five non-conference losses that season: to #12 Ohio State, #13 Purdue,  Illinois, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

In two of those three years, we won conference titles in both sports. At this writing, we only have hopes of winning a conference title in one sport during this 2011-12 year that brought us a 10-win football season (first since 1968) and our first bowl win ... but no MAC championship (still trying to wipe the second half of that damn title game from my memory ... as I am sure are many others).

I also suppose I've missed some other memorable years that didn't produce a combined 36 wins but deserve celebration ...

That's the problem with comparing records.  They play so many more games now than they used to.  It still amazes me that Jim Brown is 9th on the all-time NFL rushing list, and the first half of his 8-year career the NFL played only 12 regular season games and only 14 in the last half, with no playoff games -- just the championship (which he never played in anyway).

This has been a great year but it's like comparing apples to oranges because of the number of games played.  That's why I like averages.  Jim Brown's per rush average is still the best ever.  And speaking of Brown, he did play in the 1964 NFL championship game and gained 114 yards.

How about Oscar Robertson's Scoring record. He only played 3 years freshman weren't allowed to play back then.

Cat4ever, thanks for reminding us that there was life before the 1970s.

That was a little before my time, but I appreciate what you posted so I could learn more about the great things the Cats did in the 60s.

There is no doubt that this school year will go down as one of the greatest in OHIO history for the FB and BB teams.

This is a golden era, indeed.

Alex posted a football video of the game against 'kron from, I think, two years ago.  Off the top of my head, these studs were in that video:  T3, Tafua, VDavidson, McCrae (spelling?), TPrice, Hodge.  I'm sure I missed many other fine players who have finished their 'Cat careers.  We don't rebuild.  We reload.

One of my nephews will be a froshperson this fall.  Good timing.

I didn't update the list up top, but Marshall's win over S. Miss. last night and OUr win currently puts us at #1 on the D1 combined FB and BB wins list for the school year. Wow.

One more thing to be proud of tonight.

That list is wrong. Missouri has 30 wins this year and is ahead of us in the list.

how about pistol pete's scoring records. Imagine if he had played 4 years. Also can you imagine what he would have totaled with the 3 point shot.?

Michigan State won again today so I'm guessing we're still a game back.
