If others are correct that the MAC changed their formula for distribution such that the team earning the payout gets 50%, we would be seeing half of $5.7 million, or $2.85 million.

Keep in mind the win shares are paid out over a period of six years. Does anyone know if the revisions to how funds are distributed apply to older (ie: 2010) funds? If so, we're in line for a larger share there, as well.

Or more appropriately for this forum, that $ can be put towards raises for Coach Groce and his staff.

It will be less than $50K per year over a period of years.  There's no money in the NCAA tournament for mid-majors due to how conferences (and not individual teams) are paid.

We have some conflicting comments here. Is it $50k a year or $2.85 million over 6-7 years. Somebody is way off.

I believe he is missing a zero. $500K is probably about right.

This payout is huge for us.
Obviously this could not only fill budget holes but be used for other capital improvements, not to mentions raises.

Don't forget that there are 5 other years of payouts included each year. That add even more to the $500k amount.

Updated per crackerbaby's post below:

The conference is paid $316,667 each game a conference team played in over the previous 6 years.  Based on that, for Ohio's sweet sixteen appearance, the conference will receive at least $950,000/year over the next 6 years or $5,700,000 total.

It looks like the NCAA does its payouts one year in arrears, so the MAC should receive $2,216,669 this year  for it's 7 game appearances from 2006-2011.

Appearances
2006
2007
2008
2009
2010 x 2
2011
=======
7 appearances

Then the 2013 payout would be at least $2,850,003 based on appearances from 2007-2012.

Appearances
2007
2008
2009
2010 x 2
2011
2012 x 3
==========
9 appearances

What's not clear to me is the MAC's formula for dividing up the payouts.  They intended to reward teams who boost their RPI by playing tougher OOC opponents, winning the conference, and winning tournament games with a higher percentage of the NCAA payout.  What is the percentage formula the MAC is using?  Is the boost in payout only for the current year, or amortized over the next six years like the NCAA does?  (i.e. If Ohio gets a 50% share for winning the MAC Tourney and 2 NCAA games, is it 50% of this year's payout of $2,216,669...or do we get 50% of the $5,700,000 for this year's run to be paid over next 6 years?)

As of last year, the CONFERENCE was paid $240,000 each game a conference team played in over the previous 6 years.  Based on that, for Ohio's sweet sixteen appearance, the conference will receive at least $720,000/year over the next 6 years or $4,320,000 total.

It looks like the NCAA does its payouts one year in arrears, so the MAC should receive at least $1,680,000 this year  for it's 7 game appearances from 2006-2011.

This year's payout is $5.7 million.  The Sports Business Journal posted that each game played is worth $1.9 million this year

So that's $316,667 per game x 6 years, up from $240,000 last year.  I assumed that it'd gone up, but hadn't seen the actual numbers. Thanks.  What's the formula that the MAC uses for payout now?  I see you're saying we'll get 50%?  Is that paid over the six years too?
